Piccadilly Circus at night: 1960s vs 2024.
Elmar Ludwig (of John Hinde Studio) shows a London long gone, but my snap of the scene shows surprising similarities. Sure, buses have ballooned & decarbonised, street furniture shifted and ads are digital. But. The buses are still “Routemasters”, the lamps are still similar shapes, the curb is still there and the ads… well. Coca-Cola still blinks, Guinness is still sponsoring something, and the Guinness Clock, well - it’s not quite a clock; but TikTok’s there instead. BP isn’t in this party (ULEZ, prob keeps it out) and maybe there’s less need for airlines now - Samsung means cheap international communication, I guess. Through it all, the Underground roundel still shines. (Prints of E Ludwig’s photos are available from @TPGallery https://t.co/5WEKLVOF5U)
