@MarkConradCon Kinda reminds of of that time the IRFU an unpaid internship (25hr per week) that required a PHD. Big issue though, is people don’t understand their worth/know they can ask for it or that it’s exploitive - wouldn’t advertise if there wasn’t a good chance they’d get applications.

@Grant_Jenkins 2/2 I think as well could weed out places that use prac students as free labour. A co investment in the industries future. A highly optimistic/philanthropic approach. + as a business you get a tax deduction and positive social capital which is not to be undervalued

@Grant_Jenkins 1/2 From a personal perspective I would want to pay people doing work for me + been on the recovering end of poor work conditions enough to want to make a change. Takes $ off the table and I think you will have a more motivated individual because I have invested in them.

@Grant_Jenkins Similar to Mres. Biz stumps up half and the uni does the other - for ex 15K from each and the student then gets 30K tax free to study. Similar idea could provide prac students support so privileged aren’t the only ones to get best opp. Both parties invsted 🤷‍♂️ an ‘out there’ idea

@Grant_Jenkins Universities could subsidises the practium site to pay the student or vice versa. If the business paid the uni it could be a tax deduction for them and the uni provides it as a ‘grant’ per say. Not a fully formed thought but a concept to consider
