@SpencerBuell#mabiz#mapoli#taxpayers#affordability It's uncontrolled healthcare provider costs, out of step healthcare union contracts & inflationary state healthcare public policy that's directly to blame.
Layoffs hit Massachusetts cities and towns in tough budget year https://t.co/nSBWoGXp4A via @BostonGlobe
#mabiz#smallbiz#mapoli Inflationary, discriminatory & provider friendly. Over 60% of commercial policies in MA are self-insured & untouched by this state policy, in fact it just adds to their competitive advantages in provider negotiations & workforce recruitment. Just like the 59 state mandates which raise premiums for MA small employers & their workforces & now add up to 24% of premium; & just like state & local taxpayer funded plans which must follow state law, this new mandate means higher premiums for small employers & their workforces, higher tax expenditures for state & local plans, & less tools for the minority of policies already suffering under unaffordable state laws. It doesn't touch at all the majority operating under federal law which already have far lower premiums. After 20 years of discriminatory & inflationary state healthcare policies, FIX HIGH COST STATE LAWS & JUST CAP INSURER PREMIUMS & PROVIDER REIMBURSEMENTS!

On this day in 1942, U.S. warships ambush a Japanese task force at Midway. Japan loses four carriers and nearly 250 warplanes in the ensuing battle. It's a turning point in the Pacific War.
Senator Dick Durbin has filed a brief in support of merchants who say the @federalreserve set the Durbin Amendment regulated rate for #debitcard#swipefees too high. The senator says “The excessive fees and inefficiencies permitted by (Fed) are ultimately borne by consumers in the form of higher retail prices.”

#mabiz#smallbiz#mapoli#affordability Healthcare COSTS have been going up about 3x inflation in MA. That hits all employers, all employees, all taxpayers in the state. But small businesses & their workforces also get hit with COST SHIFTS whenever govt plans & big biz get discounts. It's the double hit & the discriminatory status under state law that is inexcusable.

My latest on the history of Mass. electric bills -- and how ratepayers may soon discover electricity is their only option as policymakers debate ending natural gas service.

Meet our member: Daley Service Center has been a family owned and operated business since 1977 when Tom and Jean Daley purchased the station. Tom ran the four-bay service station and gas station as a true community business, talking to everyone who came through the door about family and friends. In 1982, the Daley family bought the land and building from the Sunoco Corporation. Currently, the business is run by Tom’s sons, Tom, Darren, and Keith. The station was completely overhauled in 2009. Several improvements were made at the time, including the addition of three new bays, a new hydraulic lift, and the implementation of state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment. 87% of MA voters want unaffordable, provider friendly MA state health insurance mandates to be rolled back. And 75% of MA voters believe the "RomneyCare"/Chapter 58 Individual Mandate & Tax Penalty should be repealed.
#smallbiz#mabiz#mapoli What this article misses like so many before, is that small groups--which are small businesses & their workforces of 50 & under-- aren't even eligible for these tax subsidies. They get hammered year after year by these 13% annual premium increases. That's why 550,000 small group lives have left the "Only in MA" Merged Market risk pool to go self-insured, so that they are no longer forced to pay more in premiums in order for individuals to pay less. Severe state discrimination on premium cross subsidies & unaffordable state mandates are killing #MainStreet MA.
