Its conclusion: “Change is coming, with the promise that things can be better, and the threat that they could get a lot worse. The pieces of our country and our future are scattered. At its worst, a new politics could breed fragmentation and conflict. But I believe that if we have the courage to channel these energies, a new politics is also our best hope for rebirth.
“The people of Britain have some big questions to answer in the coming years, and they cannot be left to politicians trapped in the Westminster bubble. Renewing energy must come from us, from outside in, from the bottom up. It is time for us to put the pieces back together; to revitalise our society, our economy and our democracy. We must do it together. And we need to start now.”
Who will put the pieces together? Who will win the contest for common sense?
And the Spring is here.
In several places like Turkey, Serbia and the US, the world is shaking off the paralysis of fear to end the bloody winter of politics. As the masses on the streets bring along the Spring, Together: A Manifesto Against the Heartless World comes to life. Will street politics blow life into the shipwreck of conventional political parties, turning them into reefs against fascism? Do we really need hope to act? Is anger the right political tool to resist oppressive regimes? How are we going to manage our fears in the 21st Century? Is Radical Love a serious political proposition for our times? Together now has a new preface and begins with this sentence: “The gloves are off; the cut-throat world order no longer pretends to be pretty.” So, what are we going to do, and how will we stay human? Many thanks to my dear editor @clairereiderman and everyone at @canongate for this marvellous new edition. The book is also published in Canada by @SimonSchusterCA Ah! Also, if you want to listen to it from my voice, (a bit of Marianne Faithful sound there:) the audiobook is available.
@matt_leach reflects on the findings of Community, not catastrophe, a report that calls for networks of trust, mutual aid, volunteering, community support, and civil society to urgently be recognised as ‘critical national infrastructure’ in UK crisis preparedness planning 👇
Something is shifting. They are still breaking things and stealing things. And they will keep trying to break and to steal. But the propaganda magic around the oligarchical coup is fading. Nervous Musk, Trump, Vance have all been outclassed in public arguments these last few days. Government failure, stock market crash, and dictatorial alliances are not popular. People are starting to realize that there is no truth here beyond the desire for personal wealth and power.
@ThreshedThought My suspicion is they genuinely just believe they can rip everything out and let the market/technology solve it - and are applying that here too - which results in this total chaos. There actually isn’t that much else going on.

I want to make a postcard of this and send it to all those academics, politicians and journalists who smirked for years when I -together with a few thinkers- told them that Fascism is coming. However, I know very well that one shouldn’t direct her anger to those who couldn’t see this coming, but rather pay attention to those who made this happen. It is not only about saving democracy any longer but more about protecting basic human values and that is exactly why we need a moral revolution that will transform the large void at the heart of this system. #HowToLoseACountry #Together #AManifestoAgainstTheHeartlessWorld

Just over a decade ago, after being so inspired by our years organising with TEDxBrum, Impact Hub Oakland and the Project 00 family, we took a big leap, signed the lease on a space, and launched this kickstarter, it was the start of something so special, so grateful for you all celebrating with us this week. The next decade is probably going to be much harder, but deeply honoured to organising alongside so many of you.

What's truly depressing is how much this is a mirror to the rot in the American economy and society today: you end up governed by self-interested autocrats when there is no value higher than personal profit.
Looking forward to next week's event at the Conduit with @jonjalex@martynsibley and @simonjduffy talking about what we can learn about the future of democracy from those living with disability. #EverydayCitizenship
