my favorite thing about the new mission impossible is that the entire movie is all “we gotta avoid high tech gadgets! the villain is an AI, be careful!” and then in the third act Simon Pegg rides in a self driving product placement car and nothing bad happens
MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – DEAD RECKONING PART ONE is as exhausting as its title. Terribly weak villains, an incomplete plot, and the stunt set pieces are a step down from FALLOUT (the series at its best).
It's still good though?

I firmly believe every Mission Impossible movie is the best in the series when it comes to at least *one* thing, and DEAD RECKONING PART ONE has maybe two:
the MacGuffin is actually kinda fun, and Ethan Hunt gets to be a sloppy boy again

@runwithskizzers existential dread, the irresistible feeling that our virtual accomplishments are built upon a chemical-based fantasy that is altogether fleeting?
I also recommend this wonderful review of JOY RIDE from @vincensg, which we just ran on @InBetweenDrafts. She puts forth such a great read on the strength of the ensemble and the deeper message of what bonds them:

For Cinemaholics, I wrote about how JOY RIDE could save the Hollywood studio comedy (and how)
After seeing this movie twice, I can easily say this is my favorite comedy in years (and the funniest). One reason? It's low-key kinda genius:
