The axis of a robust tropical wave, in the form of a surface trough is visible at the latest ASCAT #satellite scatterometer derived winds. It will approach the Lesser Antilles this evening, and bring a period of showers and #thunderstorms through Sunday.

Day 127, orbit 1968 — That aurora was absolutely spectacular… shimmering and dancing beneath us, stretching as far as the eye could see, and so intense it lit up the Station in shades of green 💚.

We’ve seen several since the beginning of the mission, but this one was on a completely different level – far too bright for my usual aurora camera settings.

Moments like these never get old up here; the whole crew suddenly find themselves vying for a good spot at a window 😊

6/16 - Several tropical waves are moving across the tropical Atlantic and eastern Pacific. They can be tough to spot on standard satellite imagery, but total precipitable water imagery reveals them much more clearly. The next wave looks ready to emerge from Africa!

6/13: The figure below shows the points of tropical cyclone genesis by 10-day periods during the hurricane season. The source years include 1851-2025 for the Atlantic and 1949-2025 for the Eastern Pacific. Currently, a broad area of low pressure is offshore of eastern Mexico.

Tropical Storm #Cristina near the coast of El Salvador is also aiding in the development of showers and thunderstorms across much of the western Caribbean and the SW Gulf. Surface troughs analyzed in these regions are acting as forcing mechanisms with enhanced moisture in place.

Tropical waves usually tilt eastward with height. Convection stays near the wave axis when winds are uniform with height, shifts west when easterlies strengthen aloft, and shifts east when west or southwest winds dominate aloft.

There are few modern comparisons to this big blob of warmth across the undersea Pacific — called a Kelvin wave.

Its intensity rivals what occurred at this time in 1997.

But there is more warm water available in 2026 that could further boost El Niño's eventual strength.

Esta es la foto final de Phillip Herron 34, llorando en su coche, literalmente minutos antes de quitarse la vida.

Era un padre soltero con tres hijos, luchando con una deuda aplastante de más de £20,000 y estaba esperando desesperadamente un préstamo para el día de pago que había solicitado. Pero se pagó con atrasos, con un tiempo de espera de 5 semanas. Esa espera lo llevó aún más endeudado, y cuando murió tenía 4,61 £ en su cuenta bancaria y claramente no podía ver ninguna otra salida.

Como mucha gente, especialmente los hombres, guardaba todo esto para sí mismo, nadie más sabía lo mal que se estaban poniendo las cosas. Este pobre hombre incluso tuvo que decirle a sus hijos que Santa Claus no vendría este año, y en su nota de suicidio escribió que estarían mejor si él no estuviera más por aquí.

Y ahora no lo es.

Tenemos que hablar más. Tenemos que ser más amables. Y tenemos que ser un país que se ayude mutuamente cuando más lo necesitamos.

Porque al año mueren por suicidio alrededor de un millón de personas, cada día hay en promedio casi 3 mil personas que ponen fin a su vida; al menos 20 intentan suicidarse por cada una que lo consigue y se afectan al menos 6 personas cercanas.

En todo el mundo la presión social, económica, emocional, psicológica afecta más a hombres que a mujeres, esto no es tratado de manera objetiva por el gobierno, no existe ninguna línea de ayuda objetivamente creada para hombres, no se analiza la situación no se da asistencia real.
