Harry Singh, the great Minneapolis chef and restaurateur, has passed away.
He was my friend, my brother, and my very first meal stop at the Minnesota State Fair every year.
I loved the man, and I will truly miss him.
Rest in Peace, Harry. ❤️
A McDonald's restaurant in Caraballeda, La Guaira — ground zero of the twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela's northern coast — has been transformed into a makeshift field hospital, treating everyone from injured survivors to pets https://t.co/3x8Np6Xe52

More on restaurant jobs: BLS also revised downward by 10,290 jobs the number of May jobs in its survey. That had initially been a relatively strong month. With last month's 33k loss the industry has now shed 19,800 jobs this year.
Restaurants shed 32,900 jobs. Accommodations overall lost 54,600 jobs in June. Yikes.

Sales at the 1,500 largest restaurant chains in the U.S., per @technomic, have risen 23.5% over the past five years.
The problem? Menu prices are up 28.8% over that period. And unit count is up 6.4% at the same time.
So your average restaurant chain is getting by on more locations and higher prices, but not more customers. And your average American today visits chain restaurants less often than they did five years ago.

The Knicks' Jalen Brunson is joining the New York-based @justsalad as a partner and equity owner. The NBA Finals MVP has been in talks with the chain since early last year. Brunson will be "embedded in the business." Just Salad is a fast-growing, 125-unit salad brand.
Several athletes have taken stakes in growth brands as an alternative to straight marketing deals, including Shaquille O'Neal, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, etc. Potentially leads to bigger rewards down the line, but there are some definite risks.
@davidhenkes I think the sheer difficulty of 2019 was lost in the pandemic news. But it was not a great year for the industry at all. I think the industry is returning to that type of operation -- low growth, lots of closures, but some big growth brands.
