Iain Dale left stunned by calm caller on LBC

A composed caller named Mike told Iain Dale on LBC that Britain “will remain almost ungovernable until we have mass deportations”.

The exchange was striking because the caller spoke in measured tones, clearly articulating a view held by millions of people across the country. Yet Iain struggled to process it, repeatedly falling back on “you can’t do that”.

Mike highlighted the obvious disconnect: the British public have consistently voted for lower immigration, only for politicians to deliver record levels instead.

“There’s a massive disconnect between the political class and the people of this country,” he said. “We never gave any consent to this and there’s certainly no mandate for the scale of immigration we’ve seen.”

When Iain pushed back, saying you can’t deport people here perfectly legally, the caller was unflinching:

Caller: “You mean end indefinite leave to remain?”

Iain: “You can do that for future people but you can’t do that for people who have already got it. That would be outrageous.”

Caller: “Yeah you can. Of course you can.”

Iain: “From a fairness point of view, you can’t suddenly tell people who’ve got a perfect legal right to be here that we’re changing the rules now…”

Caller: “You can, Iain.”

Iain: “Well you can do that but is that really the kind of country you want to live in?”

Caller: “Yes!”

Iain continued to argue that you can’t “take it out on perfectly legal, law-abiding people”, clearly unable to grasp how widespread this frustration has become.

The public didn’t always feel this way. Years of politicians ignoring the public on immigration have shifted attitudes dramatically. As the caller made clear, people never voted for this transformation and the consequences of fixing it now rest with those who created the problem.

Well worth a listen. The gap between Westminster and the rest of the country has rarely been clearer.

It pains me to respond to the attention seeking @MatthewStadlen ....
But he's tried to orchestrate yet another pile-on and truth matters.

The exchange with him was at 1am on Monday night. At that time we were relying on sparse footage and interpreting media descriptions.

The official figures were eventually released, based on accurate assessments, after dawn the next day.

I was ACUTELY aware that this disorder would be used (just as Southport was) by the government to introduce more powers of control.

I could see Stadlen priming viewers at home to accept incoming restrictions.

Language matters. Too many people in news media reach for hyperbole to manipulate you - never more so than when an authoritarian government is waiting to pounce.

Facts that emerged the next day:
15 police officers injured.
4 residential properties damaged by fire.
3 residents evacuated from burning homes.
Several vehicles burned.

All unacceptable hooliganism, stupidity and chaos. Life-changing for some involved.

But when I think of 'riots' I call to mind Brixton in 1981 in which 100s of police and civilians were hospitalised.
Toxteth, 1981, in which one person died, more than £10million of property was damaged and 100s were injured.
The Poll Tax riots in 1990 saw 200,000 people in Trafalgar square; 100s of people injured and arrested.
Tottenham, 2011, The 'Mark Duggan' riots - FIVE people died, 1000s were arrested and damage reached roughly £200 million.
2024: Southport, 1000s of arrests and some high-profile jail-sentences including Lucy Connolly for commenting online.
Those are riots.

In 2026, a hot day is an "emergency," feeling a bit down is "depression;" rain is a "flood risk" and being tired is "burnt out."

In my view, the British people should be calmly withdrawing their labour and taking to the streets in their millions right now to force political change, but too many are unwilling to get off the sofa.

It was obvious that this disorder would be used by the government to introduce more powers of control over free speech so on Monday,'s show, I was torn between relaying the unrest and attempting to moderate the hysteria. But I did let Stadlen wind me up and that was unusual on my part.

On the issue of greater social media restrictions I was proven right within 24 hours.

Now let's look at who Matthew Stadlen really is....

Have you ever wondered why a grown man would spend so much time doing unpaid media work, even going to the time and effort of clipping and promoting my counter-narrative views on social media at every opportunity?

I have zero evidence that he is anything other than a trust-fund boy who lives in a big London house and likes being on TV.

He may just be the product of his rarified upbringing.
But if you were to require a malleable asset to nudge the Establishment dial, his type would certainly fit the bill:
St Paul's and Trinity College educated with a father, Sir Nicholas Stadlen who was a High Court Judge. His uncle Godfrey Stadlen was a very senior Home Office civil servant involved in the administrative machinery of UK immigration policy.

His paternal Grandparents were Central European émigré intellectuals who brought Marxist, anti-fascist and Continental philosophical traditions to Britain. His grandmother's work and participation in intellectual circles, especially contributed to debates on Marxism and political theory.

Frankly, The Stadlen family sits in the upper institutional ecosystem of Britain through law and elite education, not to mention Matthew's hard-to-define media career...

So when he is dead-set on making you think a certain way, take a breath, think harder and be extremely wary.

This morning in Parliament, I was accosted by Lib Dem MP Angus MacDonald, who accused me and others of inciting violence. His aggressive approach and tone left me feeling threatened and shaken.

Carol Vorderman loves lecturing the public about political misconduct and bad behaviour. But when the scandal explodes in her own camp, she goes completely silent.

She aggressively campaigned for Dan Norris in the 2024 election, pushing hard to get him elected in North East Somerset and Hanham, then celebrated his victory.

Now Norris is suspended by Labour and under police investigation for adult rape, sexual assault, and voyeurism.

If this was a Reform UK MP, she’d be demanding resignations, posting non-stop attacks, and screaming for blood. Yet for the man she helped put in Parliament? Total silence. No apology to voters.

Release the footage on Vickrum Digwa’s mobile phone.

For five full minutes, he filmed Henry Nowak bleeding on a Southampton pavement. He did not call an ambulance. He did not call for help. He filmed.

The court ruled that footage too disturbing to be played in front of a jury. It exists. It has been seen by the judge, by the prosecution, by Henry’s family.

The British public has not been allowed to see it.

You are now the Home Secretary of the country in which this happened. You have spoken about Henry’s case in the House of Commons. You have a duty to the family and the public to determine whether the same evidence the courts have weighed is available to the country that paid to investigate it.

Release the footage. Or explain to the public why the institutions that failed Henry are still deciding what we are allowed to see.
