@pergranath@Bencera@savy_builder We know how this story ended (Linux won) and history rhymes surprisingly well.
We’ll see more ways to run local models, managed with the big cloud providers, on-device and distributed across thousands of inference farms.
@realjoepally@quxiaoyin OpenAI and xAI have released open weight models before, but that is at their own discretion.
Anthropic (by principle) has and will never release an open weight model.
@beffjezos This is absolutely not good. No wonder companies are relocating to either Miami FL, or Austin, Texas.
California is taking most of the bad ideas from the United Kingdom.
There is no such thing as taxing your way to growth.
@TheAhmadOsman@cryptoskraken True. They are the only frontier lab that has never released a single open weight model.
Even Google and OpenAI have. But never Anthropic.
@beffjezos It is always the EA folks having to pretend to be the saviours of AGI just for ‘safety’ sake.
Not once has Anthropic ever released an open weight model as they think they are here to “protect us from the dangers of AGI”.
@beffjezos Training and post-training is one area worth more than a minimum of hundreds of billions of dollars.
But the inference economy alone is multi-trillions of dollars and close to the GDP of many first world countries.
@iamgingertrash@blaccastro The protests and riots of 2020 happened even in a lockdown.
I can see a definite possibility that a repeat of that will be towards AI data centers and the owners of them.
I think this time it will get worse, unfortunately.
