He won't be comfortable with the trade market for starting pitchers either, he wasn't at the trade market last year.

@CHC_DataDrive @FullCountTommy Shota isn't injured, he was just bad, Steele is still injured and Horton is a 2nd year player. My point is that they need to go out and get a front of the rotation arm if they want to compete for the division in 2026. And there are no proven arms left in FA

@CHC_DataDrive @FullCountTommy Shota couldn't be trusted to even pitch in the playoffs, they benched him. Steele was unavailable, and will be coming back from TJ in 2026. Horton wasn't available either. They were 100% out matched in the playoffs.

@FullCountTommy I guess we can agree to disagree on what constitutes a "splash" after losing a guy like Tucker and being so outmatched pitching wise last year. Seems like anything short of signing both Bregman and Imai is a step back from 2025.

@blakecowellx That ain't winning the division. We saw this offense without Tucker in 2024, and it was a 80 win team. Taking a flyer on a guy who's never pitched in the MLB and not significantly adding to the offense is a C+ for me

@cody__cubs When Jed Hoyer told you he wanted to model the franchise around the 2023 Diamondbacks, you should have listened. The goal is not to build on previous years its to create a perpetual cycle of 83 win teams and hope one of them pops off.

@PapaPeen @cody__cubs This FO has never aggressively pursued winning. Even last year, their big move was a 1 year rental at below market value. Jed will look for more prove it deals like Tucker/Bellinger and they will let the Brewers win the division again, and they are okay with that

@cody__cubs The realization should have hit about 3 years ago with this FO. Hope I'm wrong but Jed's "all in" year was last year, now that he's got his extension we are back to 3 year plans.

@Michael_Cerami Cubs need to cut corners on the starting pitching market so they don't have to completely ignore other areas. Meanwhile, the owners bring in enough revenue to sign whoever they want (they just don't want to). This is a major market team, they should be big game hunting
