@SportsnetPR So you just destroyed one of Canada’s great cultural institutions (doesn’t count if we need a subscription) and you still want to think of yourself as ‘proudly Canadian’? BS. ‘Elbows Up’ shouldn’t only count against the US, but against greedy corporations too.
@Cody5460154679@Geronim092@Outerhumanity Is English an endangered language on a continent surrounded by hundreds of millions of French speakers and a massively influential franco culture?
@PrairieCatboy Maybe it comes from 1) the Catholic basis of Quebec, despite the Quiet Revolution and 2) Quebec experienced itself largely as an embattled ethnic minority, which leads to a more communitarian vision of their society.
@JJ_McCullough What can you say if you spend all your time attacking the British root in Canada, ‘as a Canadian,’ while looking to the United States? Then for a few days the king himself is the Washington event? Well desperately you look for a wedge. We see through it.
@davidalter Having grown up in Canada near Buffalo, I’ve seen far more Sabre games than Leafs in person. Nice to see! Would love to see them win the cup.
@DegenApeDev As a Canadian proud of Canada’s different identity and history, I love Americans and imagine I always will. The subtle differences between our countries and spirits are something interesting and enriching rather than hostility inspiring for me.
@funnierhandle As someone still learning French, I wish this happened to me more often in Montreal. Too often I feel like I’m inconveniencing people when I try to do daily things like this in French (which is also fair, it’s not their job to teach me, there’s other customers, etc)
