A school can provide a general list of strategies for managing minor behavior to teachers, or it can organize a list of strategies into a hierarchy, like below. Source: https://t.co/Tny1sH88xn #classroommanagement
Hi! I’m an assistant principal. You might know me from my greatest hits such as, “I’m sorry, but I can’t tell you what punishment the other kid received”, “Your child’s story doesn’t align with the truth“, and “Sure, I’ll open your ketchup packet for you!”
We talk about the value of “high fives” for kids. But I’m reminded that staff members need high fives too! We ALL benefit from encouragement... and we ALL want to feel connected.
That kid you see every morning in the hall who you say ‘good morning’ to but yet never looks up or responds.
Keep trying... you may never get a response, but they know you notice them & that reassurance at the start of their day can be huge.
If we choose not to greet our students each & every day, we are missing one of the easiest & most impactful ways of showing our students that we care.
We can also learn a lot about our students' 'status' for the day.
