I had fun sharing conversations with all of you throughout the semester. I've learned a lot, and I hope you have to. Now let's all put this newfound knowledge to good use and make our best efforts to prevent climate change. I look forward to continuing the conversation! #PHYS273
I still can't believe a third of all Canadians don't believe in climate change. With time, it'll be undeniable, but let's just hope we don't have to get to that point, spread the word now before it's too late! Let's keep it below 2 degrees #phys273#climatechange#lesson12
@Jordan_273 Actually, the quality of our water is much worse than municipalities care to admit. In 2018 alone, we've had at least 2 boil-water advisories issued to numerous districts in Montreal.
I was actually very surprised to learn that coal consumption has decreased over the last decades. Could it be due to the fact that we replaced coal by oil? Maybe also the development of hydro energy in Canada (especally Quebec)? ##PHYS273 Lesson5
Urban planning, replanting with native species, green infrastructure development, remediation of contaminated soils, etc. will be key to combating this. #Sustainability https://t.co/1LhLd4qMZZ
Would require the government to make it beneficial for these industries to be eco-friendly and ensure a high quality of air and water. https://t.co/OvqhzGL3zv
@Jordan_273 Unfortunately, I'm not very optimistic that we will see significant improvements in the near future. I don't think the industry cares about the quality of our water or air, as long as the big bucks keep coming into their bank accounts.
Wow not too sure what to think about this.... crazy how lucky we are here in Quebec, something like this happening would never cross our minds. https://t.co/fvQuKgctrJ
@Jordan_273 In certain regions of the United States the water is so polluted by the industry that it becomes flammable. The range of health issues that these people are facing is horrifying: https://t.co/qosDF29JCj
With the world population expected to grow to 10 billion by 2050, we'll have no choice but to completly move towards renewable and clean energy sources. The fossil fuels remaining on earth will not be sufficien to meet the energy levels demanded. #RenewableEnergy
Couldn't agree with you more! It's extremely rewarding to live a minimalistic lifestyle. Buy products that'll last and don't constantly need to be replaced. Donate what you don't use anymore... avoid clutter https://t.co/VKWNWpy68T
@Deenosaurr15 @JueRuChen1@LariviereSoleil@nature @Deenosaurr15 I agree. Personally, I like to invest in good quality items, such as winter coats and boots, running shoes, etc. I think having very few long-lasting items is better than having lots of items that constantly need to be replaced.
"Bringing the entire country into compliance with its own standards would increase average life expectancies by another 1.7 years, in the areas where data is available. Complying with WHO standards instead would yield 4.1 years." Major differences in outcomes! https://t.co/mQn6NXZQLH
Hopefully we continue to see rising interest in electric cars worldwide! Most large car manufacturers now offer an electric vehicle, its the way of the future. #Sustainability https://t.co/eGgSpTlsGF
Making the change from fossil fuels to electric. It's taken a while but finally catching on!
#Lesson12#Mitigation
Fully electric vehicles only account for a tiny percentage of overall car sales, however this is changing rapidly.
