Distance really did make the heart grow fonder for USC Price MNLM student Jorge Enrique Zatarain. After time away, he saw his San Bernardino hometown with fresh eyes — and it inspired a career devoted to community impact.
“I realized, ‘Oh my god, San Bernardino is beautiful,’” Zatarain said. “There’s so much opportunity here.”
Today, as director of the El Sol Neighborhood Educational Center, he’s helping create new parks and wellness spaces. He also co-founded Lifting Our Stories, empowering young people to uplift their communities through their own voices.
