Ils font, sans le vouloir, exactement la même erreur que Marx sur la valeur-travail.

Marx croyait que la valeur d’un bien venait du temps de travail socialement nécessaire pour le produire. L’heure de labeur comme unité. Plus tu avais sué, plus c’était « valable ». Le diamant trouvé par hasard, l’eau dans le désert, le tableau de maître, le trou inutile au fond du jardin : tout ça devait rentrer dans la même comptabilité.

Ça ne marche pas.

La valeur n’est pas dans le temps passé. Elle est dans l’utilité que quelqu’un accorde au résultat, ici et maintenant. Dix heures à produire ce que personne ne veut valent zéro. Cinq minutes à produire ce que le marché arrache valent une fortune.

Marx a confondu le coût avec la valeur. Le sacrifice avec le résultat. Le temps dépensé avec la chose créée.

Moi, je raisonne à l’envers.

Je suis en recherche permanente d’efficacité. Si je fais un travail en 2 heures et que j’arrive à faire exactement le même travail en 5 minutes, je n’ai pas triché. J’ai gagné 1 heure 55.

Je vois l’IA comme un compresseur de temps.

Je vois encore des gens se gargariser de ne pas l’utiliser pour écrire.

Ils commettent une erreur fondamentale : croire que leur travail n’aurait pas pu être produit, à output identique, pour beaucoup moins de temps passé.

Ils mesurent la dignité du texte au nombre d’heures collées au clavier. C’est de la valeur-travail. Version 2026.

Une fois qu’on a compris ça, c’est encore pire si on raisonne en temps qu’on s’alloue.

Si l’IA permet de faire un travail identique plus vite, choisir de ne pas l’utiliser n’est pas une posture d’artisan. C’est le choix conscient de sacrifier le levier.

Reprends le cas. Compression de l’ordre de x20.

Tu t’alloues 2 heures. Sans IA, tu livres un travail de 2 heures, levier 1.

Avec IA, le même livrable te prend quelques minutes. Il te reste presque tout le budget. Tu le remets dans la recherche, la structure, le goût, la relance, le niveau d’exigence.

Un travail de 2 heures avec un levier x20 sera structurellement meilleur qu’un travail de 2 heures avec un levier de 1.

Refuser l’outil, ce n’est pas protéger le style. C’est choisir le moyen alors que le beaucoup plus qualitatif était disponible dans le même calendrier.

Ceux qui critiquent l’utilisation de l’IA pour tout ne sont pas des gardiens de l’écriture.

Ce sont des néo-marxistes. Ils font exactement la même erreur que Marx sur la valeur-travail.

Ils croient encore que la sueur fabrique la valeur.

Elle ne la fabrique pas. Elle la coûte.

Ce ne sont pas de mauvaises personnes. C’est un mauvais logiciel : l’effort comme preuve morale, le temps brûlé comme certificat d’authenticité. Ce logiciel fait d’abord du mal à ceux qui le portent. Ils livrent moins bien, plus lentement, et appellent ça de l’intégrité.

Le 21e siècle récompensera ceux qui compressent le temps et réinvestissent le surplus dans l’exigence.

Les autres continueront à confondre l’effort avec le résultat.

Choisis ton camp.

Compresse, ou comptabilise ta sueur.

The richest man alive looking back at his life doesn't wish he had worked harder or started sooner. He wishes he had suffered less while doing the exact same things. The output was never in question. The cost was.

The room expected the delegation answer. That a good CEO hires great people and gets out of their way. That micromanagement kills innovation. That leadership means setting the vision, not reading engineering documents.

He explained why that model fails. When a CEO doesn't understand the technical details, they can only evaluate results, not methods. They can ask "did it work?" but they can't ask "should this part exist?" They can measure output but they can't spot the inefficiency hiding inside a system that appears to be functioning. The CEO becomes a judge who doesn't understand the law. They can rule but they can't reason.

He said this is how large companies die. The CEO stops understanding the product. The VPs present optimistic summaries. The summaries hide the rot. The rot compounds for years because nobody with decision making power is close enough to the details to see it. By the time the CEO discovers the problem it's a crisis. The crisis was preventable five years ago by a CEO who read the engineering document instead of the executive summary.

He reviews engineering documents at SpaceX and Tesla personally. Not because he doesn't trust his engineers. Because the CEO who reads the executive summary is governing a company he doesn't understand. The CEO who reads the engineering document is governing the company as it actually is.

Most CEOs lead companies they can describe but can't build. He builds the companies he leads. That's not micromanagement. That's the minimum requirement for making decisions about things that matter.

Charlemagne – Carolus Magnus, meaning Charles the Great – The Second Founding Father of Western Civilization.

Augustus built the first civilization.
Charlemagne rebuilt it from the ruins. Between them, they did more to create the Western world than almost any other two men in history. Augustus is underrated. Charlemagne is almost completely forgotten. This is a civilizational scandal.

1. Understand what he inherited. The Western Roman Empire had been gone for three centuries. What remained was fragmented, largely illiterate, and violent – a patchwork of warring kingdoms. Roads were crumbling. Schools were gone. Roman law had dissolved into local custom. The Church was the only institution with any continuity. This was the raw material. What Charlemagne built from it is why you are reading this in a Western language, in a country with institutions whose lineage reaches back to his reforms.

2. He unified Western Europe by force – then made the unification stick by giving it content. The Frankish kingdom he inherited from his father already encompassed much of modern France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and western Germany. By 814, he controlled France, Germany, northern Italy, a part of Spain, and territories that would become Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Belgium. He fought forty-seven military campaigns in forty-six years. His military genius was real; the administrative genius that followed was rarer.

3. He made literacy a civic virtue. He brought Alcuin of York, the greatest scholar of his age, to Aachen and charged him with reforming education. The Carolingian Renaissance systematically reconstructed Western intellectual life: classical manuscripts were copied, Latin standardized, and an educational infrastructure created that eventually produced the medieval university. Much of what survived from antiquity survived because of this effort.

4. He built the administrative state of the medieval West. The royal envoys, sent in pairs, layman and cleric, to inspect, adjudicate, and report, were an early systematic attempt to govern a large territory through accountable officials rather than hereditary local lords. He travelled constantly through his empire, seeing with his own eyes what his officials were doing. His royal decrees created written rules covering military service, royal estates, justice, and the treatment of the poor. He was doing, in the ninth century, what Augustus had done in the first: converting personal power into transmissible institutional order.

5. On Christmas Day 800, Pope Leo III crowned him Emperor of the Romans. The ceremony was choreographed — Charlemagne later claimed he would not have entered the church had he known what the Pope intended — but its consequences were real. The idea of a Western Christian empire, distinct from Byzantium and claiming the Roman inheritance, was born. The Holy Roman Empire that followed lasted until Napoleon abolished it in 1806. The idea of Europe as a civilizational unit was given political form that day in Rome.

6. France and Germany are his children. The Treaty of Verdun in 843 divided his empire between his grandsons, laying the foundations for the territories that became France and Germany. Both trace their political origins to Charlemagne’s empire. The EU’s founding myth of Franco-German reconciliation is, at its deepest level, a family reunion.

7. He died in 814, at approximately seventy. He left an empire his heirs could not hold together – but institutions that outlasted it by centuries. The schools survived. The manuscripts survived. The administrative traditions survived. Above all, the idea of Western Christian civilization as a distinct project — worth building, defending, and transmitting — survived.

Augustus built the first foundation. Charlemagne built the second. We are still living on both.

Oh, and I have him in my family tree – and most of you Europeans do too.
