Oyarzabal is probably the most underappreciated Spanish player in the media, despite being one of the smartest footballers you’ll ever watch.

The fact that he’s not even a natural striker, yet somehow became Spain’s solution to their striker problem—to the point where Marco Asensio was used as Spain’s center-forward at the last World Cup—tells you everything about how special he is.

Oyarzabal does everything. He’s a prolific goalscorer, drops into midfield as a free-roaming player to help develop attacks, drags defenders out of position to create space for his teammates, runs in behind full-backs during transitions, and constantly opens up space in central areas. His all-around game is genuinely outstanding.

What impressed me the most was this moment. Oyarzabal produced a brilliant assist against Saudi Arabia today after making a run behind the full-back. He then signaled to Lamine Yamal to accelerate into the space at the far post and completely broke the defensive line with a perfectly weighted diagonal pass.

Oyarzabal has scored two goals and provided one assist in his first-ever World Cup, and has now been involved in 21 goals in his last 13 international games despite not being a natural striker.
