Not sure honestly. I’ve actually never heard that. Did you read this somewhere saying it was a Catholic belief?
We do have some early accounts around the 400s affirming what we still believe - the Council of Ephesus (431 AD) and St Augustine both described it as rays of light from the sun penetrating glass without breaking or injuring it.
