As we remember D-Day and the leadership of Gen. Dwight D Eisenhower I would be remiss if I didn’t share some pictures of this amazing leader.
As a founding member of Army Navy Country Club, we are proud to display his golf clubs which were frequently used during his time as President.
Perhaps more important is the second picture with the marked up version of the letter he sent to all Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force as they set forth on their “Great and Noble Undertaking.”
Next to that is a hand written note that General Eisenhower wrote taking responsibility should the invasion of Normandy have failed.
It says -
“Our landing have failed to gain a satisfactory foothold and I have withdrawn the troops. My decision to attack at this time and place is based upon the best information available. The troops, the air, and the navy did all they could do to bravery and devotion to duty could to. If any blame or fault is attached to the attempt it is mine alone.”
Here is a great link to learn more about the incredible events of that day and the remarkable leadership he displayed as Supreme Commander Allied

So honored to be partnering with the @The911Legacy and our joint mission to educate future generations on the events of 9/11. I cannot wait for the release of The Heroism and Resiliency of 9/11, from tragedy of triumph by @MichaelGier and @ChrisMeek_USA and narrated by @GarySinise
Thank you, @ArlingtonVALib, for all you do to help educate the public about the September 11th attack on the Pentagon.
I’m looking forward to the joint fireside chat with @Sept11PMFund on June 11 from 6:00–8:00 PM at the Shirlington Public Library.
During National Police Week, we honor the courage and sacrifice of the law enforcement officers who serve our communities every day.
In the aftermath of the September 11 attacks on the Pentagon, local law enforcement officers and first responders rushed into danger during a time of tremendous uncertainty and fear. Their courage and service helped inspire a grieving nation to stand back up on its feet.

I was honored to be included in the 2026 class of Northern Virginia’s 40 Under 40 honorees last night. While this is a meaningful personal milestone, it is also a reminder of the responsibility I carry as Executive Director of the Pentagon Memorial Fund.
Our mission is about fulfilling a promise to the families of the 184 lives lost at the Pentagon. As we look toward our symbolic groundbreaking this September, I am more committed than ever to ensuring we have a permanent place to tell the story of resilience and service for future generations. Thank you to the Northern Virginia community for supporting our goal for 2029.
Before Tom Cruise, there was Chic Burlingame.
Captain Charles “Chic” Burlingame III was an honor graduate AND instructor at the real TOPGUN, the U.S. Navy Fighter Weapons School at NAS Miramar.
He flew F-4 Phantoms. He served in the Gulf War. He built a 22-year career as a commercial airline captain.
On September 11, 2001, the day before his 52nd birthday, his flight was hijacked and flown into the Pentagon.
His bench stands at the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial.
The real Maverick never came home.
@NASFallon@USNavy

The Hall of Fame isn’t just stats.
Sometimes it’s one swing. One night. A broken city that needed one reason to breathe again.
@mikepiazza31 gave New York that moment on September 21, 2001.
We don’t forget it.
Ten Days ago, the 2026 @MLB season kicked off.
Today, we remember what happened ten days after September 11th, 2001, when the @Mets stepped back onto the field.
Americans were still grieving but still standing. When @mikepiazza31's bat connected that night at Shea Stadium, an entire nation exhaled for the first time.
This swing gave the Mets a 3-2 lead and provided a grieving nation with a much-needed sense of hope and unity.
Thank you, @MLB, for recording and sharing historic moments like this so future generations can witness how sports can bring us all together.
More than 58,000 names are on The Wall.
184 names are on the benches of the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial.
Some answered the call in Vietnam. Some answered it again and were still showing up at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001.
We don’t separate the generations of sacrifice. We remember them together.

I’m especially proud of the role the Army Navy Country Club Foundation played in bringing this space to life. As a former Foundation board member, I had the privilege of seeing firsthand the care and commitment that went into ensuring these stories of courage, sacrifice, and service are preserved and honored.
It stands as a lasting reminder of the character and legacy of those who have gone above and beyond in service to our country.

Grateful for the incredible people at the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors and everything they do for Gold Star families.
Being with them at the gala last week meant so much; however, it’s the small, thoughtful moments that stay with you. This cookie was such a simple gesture, but it says everything about who they are.
