@paulg@johnarnold While I share this concern, how do you think about purchasing power of the middle class? If there is no longer a need for many, many humans to work, and no incomes for them, who buys the stuff AI produces? Will supply/demand save us again?
@sbkaufman In some ways it might. I wonder, if a lonely person without a deep sense of meaning were to suddenly find out they have 100 years more to live, would they be more or less likely to build connection and meaning. Hope for the hopeless?
@BGatesIsaPyscho Think of the space suit more like a balloon than a metal tank. It’s easier to hold 1 atmosphere in a space suit (balloon) than it is to hold a vacuum when surrounded by 1 atmosphere. A balloon would have to be rigid and shaped correctly to contain vacuum space.
@Andr3jH It would take off but with an only slight disadvantage: the increased resistance of the wheel bearings, as the wheels would now need to spin twice as fast. It would likely be negligible tho, and one wouldn’t notice. It would feel like a normal takeoff
@nivi What if human creative output is also predetermined? Or, if it’s indeterminate, what makes it so and could that also exist in the program? If the program itself is incapable of knowing the outcome before it’s produced, would that signal something?
@PicturesFoIder 4 million with an annual return of 4% (safer investments) is $160,000 per year. 52 weeks at $4,000 per week is $208,000 per year. That’s a $48,000 difference but the first option keeps the principle amount without inflation control. It takes roughly 83 $48,000 to equal 4 mil. Hmm
@CathyYoung63@benryanwriter@netflix No. According to the episode, they are sleeping in a manner rarely observed. When utterly exhausted, apparently elephants will sleep this way. While sad, I found this segment uplifting in that the entire country came together to ensure they had safe passage.
@TylerAlterman Here’s a good rule of thumb. If you can’t think of a number that would fit between a repeating decimal and what you think it trends to, then they are the same number.
