Me and a friend were unable to get on the 16:56 to Nuneaton that would transfer us to Peterborough (after cancellations)

Staff at Coventry Station told us to get the 17:15 line to Birmingham NS, and then take the direct to Peterborough.

Can we be penalised for this?
