The empty lot at the corner of N Williams and Failing would make such a wonderful neighborhood plaza. A perfect spot for people to sit and enjoy the urban energy of this great corridor. Bonus that Failing St, a side street of retail, could add to the ambiance as a ped-only street
"No, I love automobiles. We don't want to tear the machine down, we just want to correct it's insanity factor."

Shit don't change.

@joanbybike Also kulshan trackside cool place with bike track park in the midst of an old paper mill transitioning to urban hood. Good bike ride: meander Elizabeth park and Broadway park hoods over to Railroad Trail, crushed gravel Rail 2 Trail up to beautiful Whatcom Falls and Lake Whatcom.
@joanbybike Absolutely! Amtrak will drop you in Fairhaven, with a fabulous waterfront trail connection to downtown via Bay trail. Colophon Cafe, Boundary Bay, Farmers Market, Bagelry, all great spots.
To put a finer point on this, and because I love MapFrappe, here is a thread on how the PDX "downtown" compares to other downtowns in this research, starting with San Diego.
Downtown Recoveries, 2023 Update
1. Zip code geog varies
2. Downtowns are distinct from regional trends
3. Downtown structure matters. Demand had to come from somewhere (work, live, visit)
4. Homelessness & crime patterns do not correlate to recovery
