Ethiopia iz the only African country that was never colonised and their art remains original.
A little late but i remembered an exhibition i saw in the Toledo Museum of Art Ohio:
Album Leaves with the Entombment of Christ (TOP LEFT), the Ascension of Christ (TOP RIGHT), the Assumption of the Virgin (BOTTOM LEFT), and Saint

PIGMENTS ON VELLUM, LATE 17TH CENTURY Minneapolis Institute of Art, The Robert J. Ulrich Works of Art Purchase Fund, 2009.39.3y, bb, dd, oo
This set of leaves, from a series of 44, exhibits a similar figural style and palette as the manuscript from Säwa in the case to your right, and these may have been produced in that city as well. These leaves, now matted separately, are large in scale; however, they were originally arranged in series and were likely painted on several long sheets of parchment that were sewn together and folded accordion-style to form a sansul, or chained manuscript.
