@moseskagan It seems like housing is more of a litmus test for other views. I want someone who is unabashedly yimby, while also being friendly enough to the capital required to get building done.
Right now our choices feel mutually exclusive.
@antontabuena The exploitation here is dumbfounding. Unfortunately Most BJJ athletes don't have meaningful alternatives. The exclusive contracts remove all leverage.
@TheHistoryNov@DuskyMoko without govt intervention, its highly unlikely we would have 30y fixed mortgages at all. What prudent lender would offer a 30y fixed rate loan with a small downpayment and no penalty for early payment or refi?
It's entirely too risky.
@WeCanShootToo@UrbanizeLA An injection of housing could and should help restaurants thrive. Wilshire from La Cienega to Koreatown is somewhat of a restaurant desert. Increased density could change that.
@jkimballcook These thoughts generally start first with the principle that they don't want to do something, then create reasons to justify why they shouldn't have to.
@Milajoy There are so many reasons, but a very Neanderthal level reason is you are paying for sovereignty.
In theory, property taxes is your legal guarantee and protection against anyone who would try to take your property from you.
Of course it also pays for city services.
@ContrarianSaver Absolutely not a hill worth dying on. A show of unity here is more important than who pays. It's the start of a new family, not an equity investment.
@shivmalik It's simple if you aren't emotional about it.
Not to discredit boomers, they worked hard, sacrificed, and were tired.
Individual Boomers don't even need to take responsibility. Just take a breathe, run some numbers, and acknowledge the problem for what it is.
