I was honoured to be invited to the Canada Kanthaswamy Temple Society today in Scarborough to celebrate the Radham Festival with our city’s vibrant Tamil Hindu community.

This festival marks the grand culmination of a 25-day Hindu spiritual religious & cultural festivities.

Working together, we took action to save affordable local grocers in Davisville that so many of us rely on every day.

I spoke at city council about the fact that we have an exciting plan for Toronto’s waterfront, with new parks and vibrant neighbourhoods, that’s now being threatened. And I reminded everyone that while a battle was won- it’s not over.

I stopped by the newest location of Jersey Mike’s at Yonge and Eglinton to cheer on their team working hard behind the counter to serve delicious subs while raising funds for Make-A-Wish Canada. Their energy and dedication was really impressive.

Your commute should be safe from start to finish. But more than 140 people have been hit while boarding or exiting a streetcar in the last 10 years.

That’s why I’ve been working to use every tool available to make sure that cars stop when the streetcar stops.

Last year, I brought forward a motion at the TTC Board to launch a pilot that uses cameras to detect illegal passing – leveraging technology to enhance enforcement and public safety. We’re moving forward with it.

Toronto deserves a transit system that is affordable, reliable – and, most importantly, which gets you home safely at the end of the day.

Antisemitism isn’t just a Jewish problem- Toronto, let’s take a stand together.

With the recent attacks at two locations of Kiva’s bakery, the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto is asking residents to stand with our city’s Jewish community by sharing messages of encouragement and support at the targeted locations of the bakery chain (1027 Steeles Ave West and 15 St Clair Ave West) from 8AM to 12PM on July 30th and 31st.

Every note will ultimately be compiled into a keepsake that the UJA will present to Kiva's as a lasting reminder of our community’s support.

Two years ago, the Ford government abruptly shuttered the Ontario Science Centre (OSC), claiming the roof was at risk of imminently collapsing. This past winter, it withstood the biggest single-day snowfall in Toronto's history.

The Province is now moving forward with a plan to build a smaller $1.4 billion OSC at Ontario Place. Nothing about that plan requires the former OSC site to sit empty. The building should be reopened and reimagined to serve a growing community in Flemingdon Park and Thorncliffe Park, along with our entire city and region.

That’s why I, working with Save Ontario's Science Centre, Moriyama Teshima Architects and local Councillor Jon Burnside, held consultations directly in Thorncliffe Park and Flemingdon Park, and with people across Toronto, to hear their vision for the future of the site. This week, we're bringing a report to City Council with that community vision and recommended next steps toward reopening.

Torontonians' priorities were clear. Keep the site public. Ensure it remains a place of learning and discovery. Protect access to the ravine and preserve the building's architecture and heritage. Most importantly, ensure it serves the surrounding communities needs and provides all Ontarians a public institution again that contributes to their quality of life.

This report recommends a process that brings the Province together with the City, the federal government, the TRCA, and community and philanthropic partners to determine the site's future use, governance, and funding.

To be successful, the province needs to come to the table in good faith. We're giving them the opportunity to do exactly that, with a realistic, positive, community-grounded vision to support.

We are aware of very disturbing reports that the police are investigating suspected hate motivated attacks at a Jewish-owned bakery, Kivas bagel bar - including one being shot at near Yonge and St. Clair. No injuries have been reported. We’ve reached out to Toronto police and they have our support as they pursue their investigation.
