These words are very precious to me. Gregory of Nyssa recorded Macrina's prayer around the time he participated in the council of Constantinople, where the creed we still confess was approved. This is the hope of Nicene faith in action, amidst light and darkness, life and death.
Particularly in Macrina’s death-bed prayer, some of the most beautiful words in Christian history, we witness God’s grace made perfect in weakness, and the hope of resurrection in our frail and mortal bodies and an enactment of 2 Corinthians 4:5–18.

The first draft of this article was written in 2015; thanks be to God it has seen the light of day. During the peer-review process there were quite interesting questions & objections raised which prompted the excursus on Protestant Mariology & TIS that will likely be of interest.
Here is my latest scholarly article, in JETS: "Finding and Seeking God’s Dwelling Place in Christ: Psalm 132 as a Case Study for Theological Interpretation of Scripture"
I am delighted to share it with the world here 1/3

I offer a series of close readings, first of Psalm 132 itself, then considered within the collection of the Psalms of ascents, then the shape and shaping of the Psalter, then within the canon, & finally — via our union with Christ — as Christ's own song that becomes ours in him.
Excited to share I've an article in the forthcoming 2026 edition of the Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society @etsjets: "FINDING AND SEEKING GOD’S DWELLING PLACE IN CHRIST: PSALM 132 AS A CASE STUDY FOR THEOLOGICAL INTERPRETATION OF SCRIPTURE"
Many years in the making!
I am delighted to share the first entry in my new, quarterly column at @MereOrthodoxy, "The Heron," devoted to forthcoming books on Christian theology, biblical studies, hermeneutics, church history, pastoral ministry, Christian living, & more!

My latest, in @mereorthodoxy for World Down Syndrome Day, is on what it means to be a human being.
My point of departure is the late Dan Treier's christology, that human beings are "the creatures whose nature the Son of God assumed in the incarnation."

"If character is who we are when no one else is looking, it is especially revealed when we find ourselves in institutional settings, relationships, vocations, and situations that become discouraging, exhausting, and our efforts feel futile and hopeless."

My latest: in @mereorthodoxy I review @FredFredSanders's wonderful new book "Union with Christ and the Life of Faith" @BakerAcademic
Whole book is great; chapters on union with Christ in the canon & creeds are a blast! Oh the deep, deep love of Jesus! https://t.co/JCNk7I8Ks0

My latest writing, in @MereOrthodoxy: "Character in Absurd Times."
It's a little exercise for practicing moral theology amidst discouragements & absurdity. From "The Lord of the Rings," it compares better & worse ways to seek Advent-like hope https://t.co/VSVNoIsqBI
Grateful to share that my article was accepted by the Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society; it will appear in vol69.1 in March of 2026, entitled: "Finding and Seeking God’s Dwelling Place in Christ: Psalm 132 as a Case Study for Theological Interpretation of Scripture."

In @mereorthodoxy, I reviewed the collected shorter writings of Dr. Richard B. Gaffin Jr., which were spiritually & intellectually formative in my earliest days of theological learning.

My debut in @commentmag: "Mercy, Attentiveness, and Alyosha."
In light of challenges posed by emerging artificial intelligence technology to education, mortality, and human existence, I ponder the way of mercy and a recent attempt to befriend a widow.
