Seed cleaning time! 💨🌾🌰 This handy seed blower helps our conservation staff prepare collected seeds for storage or planting: air flowing up from the bottom lifts light, fluffy material and seed hulls into the upper bag, while the seeds themselves fall into the lower bag.

Here, plant conservation intern @JoshuaPil adds orange coneflower (Rudbeckia fulgida) seeds collected at Penny's Bend Nature Preserve to the blower. These seeds will eventually return to Penny's Bend as part of a project restoring the Piedmont savanna there with native species.

Yesterday there weren't any known populations of Aeschynomene virginica or sensitive jointvetch in NC. Today we planted ~300 at Lake #Mattamuskeet!

Planting seabeach amaranth around Cape Lookout with @NCBotGarden and @CapeLookoutNPS! Seabeach amaranth occurs on barrier beaches along the east coast and is declining (threatened since 1993) because of SLR, coastal development, etc.

Sand is everywhere.
