FYI my phone is chock full of pictures of my cat, he is awesome and I will share them to people who need cuteness to distract from awful stuff on this hellsite. Tag or DM me for cuteness and I shall provide.
@MonkEmma @RustyShaghorn @quellyquokka@marieowen30 To be honest, space wise it’s largely rural and expensive, but if you look at the popular density of NF East, most of the voters will be Totton, Hythe, Fawley. Largely working class and relatively affordable housing (for Hampshire), so maybe age, maybe voter apathy…
It’s possible to mourn the Oct. 7 murdered Israelis, hope for safe return of hostages & condemn antisemitism AND ALSO oppose the slaughter of Palestinians, demand a free Palestine & human rights 4 all, condemn US/UK complicity in war crimes & cheer S. Africa & Yemen’s heroism
@MonkEmma@marieowen30@quellyquokka Not only is New Forest super Tory, in New Forest East our MP has been in seat since 97 and is still stuck in the 90s when it comes to communication with constituents. No email or social media, only phone or letter. It’s almost like he doesn’t want to be accountable.
It really is fascinating, this.
What we are seeing is, literally, a clash of cultures: the culture of warmongering and the culture of peacebuilding.
Peacebuilders never enter into the game of jingoistic name-calling when discussing conflict resolution because it is counter-productive and puerile.
Warmongers always do, because they have to drum up hatred of the "other" in order to sustain support for conflict.
It really is that simple.
So now you have to examine your own approach - from whatever side of the conflict - and decide whether you're a Piers Morgan or a Jeremy Corbyn.
The point of LGBTQ+ liberation is not to kill everyone and then declare "liberation." These pictures do nothing for the cause of LGBTQ+ liberation anywhere, and if anything, only hardens anti-LGBTQ+ stances among people who see this and associate it with brutal bombing of kids.
We’ve got to hold our politicians to higher standards than ‘not the other party’ otherwise we’re just slowing down societal collapse rather than trying to build something better.
I really don’t get the people objecting to this tepid take. If ‘progressive’ candidates can’t even stand up against a genocide, then what’s the point in them? Sure the republicans and the Tories are evil, but we should still expect better from the democrats and Labour!
People who are silent right now are already living in the post-genocide world. They’re concerned about saving friendships or preserving their brand in order to function in the after—they’ve skipped the present. Futility is always a self-fulfilling prophecy. Resist it, I beg you.
Enough!
It is just horror after horror after horror.
Remember these precious and beautiful lives. They are human beings with names and faces. And they are being indiscriminately slaughtered.
What unconscionable inhumanity. We need a ceasefire, now.
Arabic words like “shaheed,” “jihad,” and “intifada” are regularly mistranslated or misconstrued in English-language media to stereotype and demonize the movement for Palestinian liberation.
But what do they really mean?
