An interesting conversation happened to me the other day, and I can't get it out of my head.
Talking to a friend at law school about "the Founders" (say "Framers," the first is cringe AF), I said that one of Scalia's statements about history in a dissent was entirely wrong. ๐งต
With political ads in full swing, I would love both the @DanRayfield and @LathropWill campaigns to explain how the goals set out in their advertising fit within the statutory powers of the Oregon Attorney General.
@FlintDibble I remember this episode of Man in the High Castle! Oh, wait ... someone actually wrote this ... in real life ... on a public forum ... hooray...
@sentantiq@AntigoneJournal To be fair, this childish outburst did lead to @BretDevereaux getting a pretty cool, and unique nickname ๐คฃ
Astonishing, still, that nobody had the courage to sign those posts and that they were made from behind the veil of the publication's name.
I rarely comment on popular-facing ancient world things anymore, but the video linked below really annoyed me. Much of it is just made-up nonsense, yet it has tens of thousands of views. I absolutely hate this.

This is one of the most laughable takes I have ever seen from a faculty member.
For those in graduate or professional programs, yes, networking is important. A mental health break at the /airport/ after what might be your first conference is just as important.
I caught a grad student of mine watching anime at the airport after a conference once. I was pretty furious. Youโre basically saying โIโd rather watch this than network with my peers.โ I snapped a photo and told him someone sent me it. That woke him up real fast.
Mary Beard dropping some hard truths to the Musk-ateers on here. His ignorance of ancient history is matched only by his confidence in spouting it publicly. #BadAncient
@JamesWardenMN@BretDevereaux@SydneyFreedberg It's a good overview, as are any of Hoyos' other books.
I still recommend Serge Lancel's "Carthage: A History" to folks who are first approaching Carthage, as well.
@Nakhthor John Roberts once touted his duty as chief was to ensure that the Court maintained its institutional legitimacy. He has clearly done a "180" on that perspective.
By not giving lower courts any guidance, Loper just created a mountain of work for the judiciary that it is not equipped to handle. Hoozah for โjudicial economyโ and all that!
Is it common for a law review to send articles to press without first sending proofs to authors? Asking as a scholar from a different field beginning to publish in law reviews.
Hey all! A friend has a GoFundMe setup to help with some unexpected veterinary bills. If you can help, a tiny and affectionate squirrel will be very happy ๐
