โพAfDB President Akinwumi Adesina hails Samia's "incredible leadership", describing her as Africa's gem

Dar es Salaam
President Samia Suluhu Hassan has secured over $2 billion funding to help Africa attain the ambitious goal of clean cooking for all by 2030.
Harmful cooking practices cause the deaths of close to 4 million people globally every year, with children and women most affected.
President Samia yesterday called for the generous replenishment of the African Development Fund at the Summit on Clean Cooking in Africa in the French capital, Paris.
The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina, hailed President Samia as a "great leader" for her role in mobilising significant financial resources for clean cooking initiatives in Africa.
"Thank you President Samiaโฉ Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania for your incredible leadership that led to the success of the clean cooking summit in Africa held in Paris," Adesina said on X.
"The world heard you (President Samia) and rallied with $2.1 billion. You are a gem for Africa! We trust your leadership."
President Samia co-chaired the summit alongside Adesina, Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Store and Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Dr. Fatih Birol.
Samia, who champions the clean cooking agenda not only in Tanzania but also in Africa and globally, told world leaders at the Paris summit yesterday that they must unlock over $12 billion financing for clean cooking.
"Insufficient funding and a lack of awareness about the economic opportunities within the clean cooking industry hamper efforts to scale interventions. Moreover, development of the needed solutions is limited by insufficient research and innovation," President Samia said in a statement issued by State House.
"Over 900 million Africans rely on unclean cooking solutions, a fact which contributes to environmental degradation, biodiversity loss and related health hazards," she said.
She noted that clean cooking access rates globally currently range from over 60% in Central and Southern Asia, to over 80% in Eastern Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.
On the contrary, Africa, the continent with the highest population growth rates, and with all necessary natural resources, ranks the least in access to clean cooking, she said.
President Samia cited three major challenges facing clean cooking in Africa, including the lack of access to adequate, affordable and sustainable solutions, lack of global attention to the problem and the absence of smart partnerships to ensure clean cooking access for all.
"Amidst these challenges, central to Tanzaniaโs own commitment is delivering on our recently-launched ten-year Clean Cooking National Strategy, which aims to ensure that 80% of Tanzanians use clean cooking solutions by 2034," she said.
Tanzania will also establish a National Fund to support clean cooking and the Prime Minister will provide high-level oversight of implementation of the strategy, she pledged.
"Given the disproportionate burden faced by women, Tanzania will continue to advocate the African Women Clean Cooking Support Programme (AWCCSP) to not only address the environmental and health impacts, but also, empower women as agents of change within their communities," she said.
President Samia said clean cooking was a just energy transition and urged world leaders to make it a priority agenda for Africa to positively impact the people, the environment and the planet at large.

Today, we approved the designs for the new passenger terminals at Al Maktoum International Airport, and commencing construction of the building at a cost of AED 128 billion as part of Dubai Aviation Corporation's strategy.
Al Maktoum International Airport will enjoy the world's largest capacity, reaching up to 260 million passengers. It will be five times the size of the current Dubai International Airport, and all operations at Dubai International Airport will be transferred to it in the coming years. The airport will accommodate 400 aircraft gates and feature five parallel runways. New aviation technologies will be employed for the first time in the aviation sector.
As we build an entire city around the airport in Dubai South, demand for housing for a million people will follow. It will host the world's leading companies in the logistics and air transport sectors.
We are building a new project for future generations, ensuring continuous and stable development for our children and their children in turn. Dubai will be the world's airport, its port, its urban hub, and its new global center.

This illustration can give you a scale and idea of what goes on underneath Washington DC.
The underground spaces are used to house a large array of sensitive documents and information, including classified materials and national security secrets.
You can better understand the footage of those children being escorted out of the White House a few years ago by what appeared to be secret services in the middle of the night.
Our government officials have been living alternative lives down there. All of this info will eventually be revealed to the general public. They will have no forewarning. They will wake up and realize everything has changed.
Ofcourse when you look at images such as this you can also add the Getty museum. You can add the Statute of Liberty. Or even the Denver airport.
Because they all share the same purpose regarding these underground systems that are even connected to areas we would consider remote secluded areas you think are not populated. That's only because you are looking at the surface.

โพ Tanzania, which has been receiving U.S. food aid for a school feeding programme for the past 14 years, now wants to attach conditions on how the aid from American farmers is delivered to the East African nation

Aid conditionality usually refers to the practice of donors attaching conditions to recipients to enhance the effectiveness of aid.
But in a role reversal, aid-recipient Tanzania now wants to change the traditional relationship between a donor and a recipient.
Tanzania, which has been receiving U.S. food assistance for a school feeding programme for the past 14 years, is attaching conditions on the aid from American farmers.
These are the conditions given to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) by Tanzania's Agriculture Minister Hussein Bashe:
1๏ธโฃ The U.S. must buy rice and beans for the school feeding programme from Tanzanian farmers
2๏ธโฃ Fortification of the food for school kids should be done in Tanzania in plain sight
"We have informed an NGO that is implementing a school feeding project in primary and secondary schools to tell the Americans that there is rice and beans in this country," Bashe said yesterday.
"Therefore, the money that they are using to give American farmers should be given to Tanzanian farmers."
He also insisted that the fortification of the rice and beans should be done in Tanzania to avoid suspicion on donor motives on the types of extra nutrients added to the food.
"Our country is self sufficient," he said, adding that there was no need whatsoever to import food from the U.S for Tanzanian school kids when everything was available locally.

Tanzania expects to harvest 5 million tonnes of rice this year, up from an estimated 2.3 million tonnes previously, while national demand for the staple food stands at slightly over 1 million tonnes.
The country produced nearly 2.5 million tons of beans and other legumes in 2022, compared to an annual demand of 1 million tonnes.
Tanzania is a regional food basket that exports its surplus harvest to Kenya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Rwanda and other countries.
Bashe's comments were in reaction to a fiery debate on social media triggered by a tweet from the U.S. embassy in Dar es Salaam on the delivery of food aid to Tanzania.
The American embassy said on its X account yesterday that the U.S. Department of Agriculture, in collaboration with the NGO Global Communities, has delivered a donation of "fortified rice, pinto beans, and sunflower seed oil from American farmers directly to schools in Tanzaniaโs Dodoma region."
The tweet raised questions online on why food self-sufficient Tanzania was receiving food aid from the United States.
USDA awarded Global Communities a project called Pamoja Tuwalishe (together letโs feed them) for inclusive school feeding in Mara and Dodoma regions and to support the rollout of the Tanzanian government's new National School Feeding Guidelines.
Over the life of the project, Pamoja Tuwalishe aims to provide 3,830 metric tonnes of U.S. donated commodities โ rice, beans and vegetable oil โ as well as USDA-provided funds to procure 1,565 metric tonnes of locally grown and purchased maize, beans and sunflower oil, the NGO said on its website.
Project-provided food commodities, together with food contributed by schools, communities and the government of Tanzania, will provide school meals for more than 300,000 pre-primary and primary students in 351 schools in nine districts of Mara and Dodoma regions.
Global Communities said it began implementing the first phase of the McGovern-Dole Food for Education project in Tanzania in 2010 with funding from the USDA. The programme is now in its fourth phase.

SOUTH AFRICA REQUESTS INTERNATIONAL COURT OF JUSTICE TO URGENTLY ACT TO PREVENT FAMINE IN GAZA GENOCIDE
South Africa has on 6 March 2024 approached the International Court of Justice (ICJ) with an urgent application for the provisional measures the court ordered on 26 January 2024 to be strengthened to prevent a catastrophic famine in the Gaza Strip.
The urgent application has been necessitated by widespread starvation in Gaza, which has claimed the lives of at least 15 children in the past week alone, with the actual numbers believed to be much higher. United Nations experts warn that the number of deaths will increase exponentially unless military activities are halted and the blockade is lifted.
South Africa has therefore requested the indication and/or modification of the following provisional measures:
1. All participants in the conflict must ensure that all fighting and hostilities come to an immediate halt, and that all hostages and detainees are released immediately.
2. All Parties to the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide must, forthwith, take all measures necessary to comply with all of their obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
3. All Parties to the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide must, forthwith, refrain from any action, and in particular any armed action or support thereof, which might prejudice the right of the Palestinians in Gaza to be protected from acts of genocide and related prohibited acts, or any other rights in respect of whatever judgment the Court may render in the case, or which might aggravate or extend the dispute before the Court or make it more difficult to resolve.
4. The State of Israel shall take immediate and effective measures to enable the provision of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance to address famine and starvation and the adverse conditions of life faced by Palestinians in Gaza, by:
(a) immediately suspending its military operations in Gaza;
(b) lifting its blockade of Gaza;
(c) rescinding all other existing measures and practices that directly or indirectly have the effect of obstructing the access of Palestinians in Gaza to humanitarian assistance and basic services; and
(d) ensuring the provision of adequate and sufficient food, water, fuel, shelter, clothing, hygiene and sanitation requirements, alongside medical assistance, including medical supplies and support.
5. The State of Israel shall submit an open report to the Court on all measures taken to give effect to all provisional measures ordered by the Court to date, within one month as from the date of this Order.
On 29 December 2023, South Africa approached the International Court of Justice (ICJ), as a State Party to the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (โGenocide Conventionโ), seeking an order to prevent Israel from committing genocide against the Palestinian people who, along with all other distinct national, racial and ethnical groups, are protected by that Convention.
On 26 January 2024, the Court ruled that South Africaโs claim met the standard of plausibility and, on the request of South Africa, ordered Israel inter alia, to take action to prevent and punish genocide, incitement to genocide, and to enable the immediate and effective provision of basic services and humanitarian assistance to besieged Gaza.
