Two bulls square up for a friendly sparring match while curious calves watch from the sidelines on one of Samburu's greener days. Play fighting isn't just fun, it helps elephants build strength and practise the social skills they'll need throughout life.

Farewell from Griet van Malderen
A giant has fallen - One Ton is gone.
For years, his tusks touched the ground - a living relic of a world we're losing tusk by tusk, bull by bull.
He roamed the Chyulu Hills like he owned time itselt. Calm.
Immense. Unbothered by the cameras that adored him.
Now there are even fewer giants left.
Rest, gentle king.
Deep gratitude to @tsavotrust and @biglife for protecting the great tuskers because of you, these tuskers live there full life and die as they should: old, wild, and free.
Nursery Head Keeper Edwin calls Nyambeni a "nanny by force" – she is so eager to look after the babies that she often resorts to pushing the other nannies away. This has the opposite of her desired effect, as all her barging around can be a bit off-putting to the little ones!
On this day, however, she was on her best behaviour – and it was little Daba (right) who did the barging! He was jealous of the attention that littler Zuri (left) was getting and couldn't resist a well-placed shove. Nyambeni prudently positioned herself between the toddlers and peace was restored.
Every elephant seen here is an orphan. Rescued as babies, they will grow up in our care until they are ready to reclaim their place in the wild. Learn more about our conservation work by following us @SheldrickTrust .
One week later, and we're still riding the high from the 26th Lewa Safari Marathon!
Organized by @Tusk_org and @LewaConservancy , the Lewa Safari Marathon brings together runners, conservationists, and supporters from around the world to raise vital funds for wildlife conservation and community development across Kenya.
This year, Mara Elephant Project's rangers were proud to take on the challenge alongside the Mountain Bongo Project team, running in support of one of the world's rarest antelopes, the mountain bongo.
Our rangers spend every day covering challenging terrain to safeguard wildlife and support human-wildlife coexistence across the Greater Mara Ecosystem. The marathon celebrated that dedication while bringing together conservationists united by a shared mission.
And they delivered an incredible performance!
We're proud to have shared this experience with the Mountain Bongo Project and the wider conservation community. Alongside our partners including Tusk Trust and Mountain Bongo Project, we remain committed to protecting Kenya's wildlife and strengthening the communities that live alongside it.
