@Teamgrassroots_ More players have made pro debuts in the premier league this season that signed for clubs at their entry age u9, than any other age group…this is also consistent with most seasons
Would be interested to hear the thoughts and experiences of people regarding 1-2-1 coaching.
Does this need to be more regulated by the FA? Seems to have boomed through and after covid.
@AcademyDad1 Study is currently over 3 seasons 16/17-18/19 (EPL only). 102 players that made debuts in this time, eligible within my criteria.
U9: 61
U10-12: 21
U13-u15: 13
U16+: 7
Both Pope and Mings were released at 16, Maguire released at u10 when the academy folded. Sancho the only player to have a fee agreed in a transfer before scholarship.

@ground_guru Don’t think it’s the deadline, I believe it is when they are allowed to be registered from. As with all other academy age groups (3rd Saturday May preceding their following season) most clubs use it as an opportunity to a announce the players they are registering at U9
@ground_guru Brilliant article as always @ground_guru “Premier League research has revealed that almost half of the homegrown U23 players in the division were registered with an Academy before their 10th birthday.” Do you have a link for this research?
@michaelobafemi_ Hi Michael, I am currently doing a study on the journey of premier league players. I am unable to source the age you joined Chelsea and was wondering if you would help? Many thanks!
@_DannyJones10 More importantly the people that hold all the data that would give parents a better support of making the decision to let there child be involved in an academy system or have equal experience elsewhere, stockpile the data and don’t do anything with it.
@_DannyJones10 I could find players in my study that fully back the statement they are suggesting. Player developmentment as we know is a non-linear pathway. For every successful late entry to an academy system you’ll find one that entered pre 9
@_DannyJones10 From my experience around 50% on average of the squads at 9 have got to 14’s. Clubs I’ve worked at have a u15/16 mix.
It’s a different question I guess, But think there would be similar findings.
