Financial journalist. Irritating pedant. Likes music (making it or listening to it). Board games enthusiast. Every jacket he wears is a Harrington jacket.
Shelf of shame (contd.): Princes of the Renaissance; Quartermaster General: 1914; Railway Rivals; Ram Speed: Naval Warfare in the Bronze Age; Small World of Warcraft; Statis Pro Football; Stocks & Shares; Struggle of Empires; Tesla vs Edison, Viking Raiders (Xmas 24 gift).
Time for my end-of-year list of board games I own that got played in 2024. The list won't fit on a single tweet (Xeet?) - I play board games very often, and usually other peoples' games, so to get the total number of games I played, you can probably multiply this number by 20.
Shelf of shame (games not played since 2021): Armchair Cricket, Babylon 5: the CCG; Caylus; Dreadnought; Dune; Elchfest; Empires of the Ancient World, En Garde!; Endeavour; Imperialism; El Juego de la Vuelta Cyclista; Lancashire Railways; Minotaur Lords; Mordred; [contd]
Single-play games: Alles Im Eimer; Bootleggers; Der Ausreisser; Breaking Away; Coloretto; Colt Express; Great Western Trail; Mississippi Queen; New York, New York; Northgard, Omega Centauri, Quartermaster General: Cold War, Silverton, Snowdonia, Star Wars: the Deckbuilding Game.
It's disappointing to learn https://t.co/juUPdDMvSg will be closing on 8 Jan. SFAIK, it's the only place to play Food Chain Magnate online (can Tabletop Simulator do it?); I doubt I'll ever play it FTF again. Is Boardgamearena .com killing the competition (cf. Boitajeux .net)?
@James_HughesUK@sufferingspurs Hiya Jimbo. Been a while. Hope you are well. Once again, I find myself in agreement with you. My hope is that eventually, THFC will be the footballing equivalent of Bazball; lose a few we should've won but win a sight more we would be expected to lose ... and no draws.
I have somewhat got the hump with Mrs JournoJohnH, after an incident late yesterday afternoon. I don't think she has realised I am continuing my childishness this morning. I'll have to huff and puff extravagantly and be a bit more surly, so my darling gets the message.
@peterjbirks Dib dib dib. Be prepared, Peter. A couple of weeks back I was stuck on the A414 for two hours because of a serious accident. I have since put a blanket, some chocolate, a phone battery pack, a torch, and a wide-mouthed bottle in the boot, in case of emergency.
@GaryScotsman23@implausibleblog <<Does anyone watch snivelling lefties any more?>> It's on its 68th series, so I would guess the answer is "yes". For all their "snivelling", the lefties on it haven't changed society much except perhaps through giving a platform to Boris Johnson, so Tories will always have that.
@TheExtremeMusi1 This assertion would have more credence were it not for the fact that, at least when the Beatles first broke big, giving the middle finger meant nothing in Britain; Brits flicked the V sign.
Subliminal advertising for Cadbury's Creme Egg here from the Grauniad. BTW, never mind renationalising the railways; can we rescue Cadbury from US ownership, please?
I think it was on the TV show "Scrubs" that I learnt that "so's your face" is the perfect retort to any awkward or embarrassing assertion. Keir Starmer's version of this seems to be "ยฃ22bn black hole". It's all the Tories' fault ...
