With great sadness, we received information about the passing of Dr. Eva V. Ebin, a Hungarian-Jewish Auschwitz Survivor.

Born on 31 October 1926, in Budapest, Dr. Eva V. Ebin, née Eva Szegel, grew up in Munkács, a Jewish community where only about 15 percent survived the Holocaust.

Eva was deported from Munkács to Auschwitz in May 1944 at age 17. Her mother and much of her extended family were murdered upon arrival. In November 1944, she was transferred from Auschwitz to Lenzing, a subcamp of Mauthausen in Austria, where she was liberated in early May 1945.

After the war, she raced to fulfill her childhood dream of becoming a doctor. She completed medical school in Vienna, immigrated to the United States, married, and became Dr. Eva V. Ebin, a board-certified pediatrician and psychiatrist in New York.

She died on July 6, 2026, at 99 years old, and is remembered by three of her four children, 22 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, and friends for her elegance, discipline, high standards, and love.

Today is a devastating day for the 95.7 NewsRadio family and for Nova Scotians.

Rick Howe, Sheldon MacLeod, Todd Veinotte, Dan Ahlstrand and the entire 95.7 News Radio team provided news, entertainment, and important opportunities for Nova Scotians to share their opinions. They did so with balance, integrity and well loved personalities.

I always appreciated the opportunity to call in to talk with Nova Scotians from the time I was first elected as an MLA, through my time as Premier. 

While I wish I could have one more opportunity to take calls on an open hour, I want to thank the entire team for their dedication and professionalism. 

We will find other ways to continue to connect, but the loss of 95.7 NewsRadio will leave a void in important, civil, political discussions.

A woman was attacked on Kitsilano Beach in broad daylight with a piece of wood, left bleeding from the head and slipping in and out of consciousness.

The accused spent less than 48 hours in custody before being released back into the community.

This is exactly why Canadians are losing faith in our justice system. After years of Liberal soft-on-crime policies, violent offenders are too often released while victims are left wondering if anyone is actually on their side.

Canadians deserve safe streets, real consequences, and a justice system that puts victims first.

We’re delivering more healthcare, closer to home for more Nova Scotians.

Site preparation is now underway for a new six-station dialysis unit at Roseway Hospital, bringing life-saving renal care closer to patients and families in Shelburne County and surrounding communities.

This project is part of our plan to build three new dialysis units across Nova Scotia, improving access to care while reducing the need for long-distance travel.

We’re continuing to strengthen healthcare across our province, so more Nova Scotians can get the care they need, closer to home.

Supporting our farmers means investing in the infrastructure they need to grow.

That’s why our government invested in MB Meat Company, expanding beef processing capacity in Cape Breton.

For too long, local farmers had to send their cattle off the island for processing, adding unnecessary costs and making it harder to get Cape Breton-raised beef to local families, restaurants and retailers.

This new facility helps farmers keep more of their business here at home, strengthens our local food supply, and creates new opportunities for our rural economy.

A big thank you to the team at MB Meat Company for investing in Cape Breton, championing local agriculture, and helping build a stronger Nova Scotia.
