1. The State, as recent as last month, had an application in court seeking to hide identity of witnesses prior to commencement of trial. Why didn't the State make this application 2 years ago?

2. No accused person wants any trial.Accused persons want a fair trial. The right to a fair trial is what Dr Besigye has been complaining about for two years.

3. Why doesn't the President ask the military, DPP and Judiciary to stop violating Dr Besigye's right to a fair trial?

4. The right to a fair trial means the rules of the trial are evenly applied and the law is followed. The Trial Judge, so far, has ignored all provisions of the law which require him to release Dr Besigye on bail.

If the Judge cannot follow the law on such a simple matter, can he afford a fair trial on the weightier matter of criminal culpability? Absolutely No!

You could tell from the entire exercise today that she was internally struggling with something. Perhaps Matembe’s tears yesterday did not let her sleep peacefully, plus all the public sentiments that followed. She finally gathered the courage to say words that many of her colleagues in Temples of (in)Justice have dishonourably failed to say, as they chose to enable oppression of the persecuted. Her conscience has refused to die while she lives. It might be only one instance, but she deserves flowers and respect. Keep that way Sheilla Gloria Atim, regardless. May history count you among those that stood up in the storm. Perhaps more consciences could be gradually woken back to life. Perhaps they’ll be challenged by her courage to say those few words.

As expected, Dr Besigye’s case is at a standstill following the lockout of his lead lawyers, Martha Karua and Erias Lukwago by Muhoozi. Dr Besigye certainly won’t allow the trial to proceed without his lead lawyers. And as expected, Judge Baguma doesn’t give a damn.
