Congratulations to HE James Swan for his appointment by the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, as his Special Representative for the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO).
Jim has ably led the UNSOM/UNTMIS Mission in Somalia, over the years, in several appointments, and has steered the International community’s efforts in the Stabilization and State Building in Somalia, during several critical periods, most notably through the contested election processes of 2020-22.
His departure at this critical juncture is a big loss for Somalia, but his cool temperament, boundless optimism, and meticulous professionalism will be a valuable gain for the Democratic Republic of Congo. I wish him well in his new endeavors.
