My wife and I got into it last night about the grocery bill.
I pulled up an old Target order from February 2020.
28 items. $64.50.
Added every single one back to the cart just to see.
$158.30.
Same 28 items. Same store. Same cart.
$93.80 more.
In five years.
We didn’t buy more.
Didn’t upgrade anything.
Didn’t add a single extra item.
Just needed the same things we always needed.
They told us inflation was transitory. They told us it was under control. They told us the economy was strong.
Our cart didn’t get any of those memos.
145% increase in five years.
Not one member of Congress has looked at a grocery receipt in decades.
And it shows.
Over the course of a lifetime, we face only a few moments where the decisions we make and the actions we take will shape our history for years to come. This is one of them.
The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.
Focus on effort, not outcomes. It’s insane to tie your wellbeing to things outside of your control, Marcus Aurelius said. If you did your best, if you gave it your all, if you acted with your best judgment—that's a win…regardless of whether it’s a good or bad outcome.
Nvidia CEO: Greatness does not come out of intelligence, it comes from character.
Character is not formed out of smart people: it is formed out of people who have suffered.
In case you missed it -- Zahi Hawass on the JRE. Critics can no longer complain that Joe doesn't give enough mainstream archaeologists the opportunity to express their point of view.

You've been lied to.
ADHD isn't a mental disease you can cure by taking pills.
It's a superpower.
Once you harness it, you'll become unstoppable.
Here's what you can do to turn ADHD into a superpower:
The tragedy and horror of 9/11 could have been a national moment of awakening. We could have asked, "What have we sown in the world that inspired such violence?" But instead, the neocons in the Bush administration used it as a launchpad for a global War on Terror that has cost millions of lives and bankrupted our nation — financially and morally. So, let us take this day to ask again, "What are we sowing in the world?" For hate breeds hate. Violence breeds violence. If we can remember that, then the deaths of the victims and the pain of their families will not have entirely been in vain.
Wheat was the one US crop that was always non-GMO, because the US exports $6 billion/year in wheat, and our biggest buyers refused the GMO version.
Yet last week, FDA and USDA approved an Argentine-develped GMO wheat strain for the United States.
Were US consumers, or wheat growers, given a say? Will we lose foreign markets and risk our health, yet again?
Let’s make America healthy again. Increasing GMO foods is going in the wrong direction.
I would love to do a podcast with @KamalaHarris and other leading voices in the Democratic party including:

I think we can have amazing conversations!
I don't do gotcha-journalism, just a good-faith chat about life, philosophy, and ideas that hopefully helps reveal our common humanity.
It'll be fun, and great for everyone! ❤
DM's are open! 🙏
I think that neither Trump nor Harris will destroy America if elected president.
Call me crazy, but I think that Trump is not a fascist and Harris is not a communist.
I think this is a reasonable rational position, but according to the internet it's insane 🤣
Either way, getting attacked by both sides has been mentally exhausting for me. Perhaps that's the design of the current political climate: anyone with moderate open-mindedness needs to be pushed out in favor of a "battle" between dogmatic extremes. This doesn't seem like the right path toward truth.
This shouldn't happen in America.
Political persecution is something we expect to see in third-world countries and fledgling democracies, but not here.
Democrat Clear Choice PAC donor Reid Hoffman, who funded E. Jean Carroll's lawsuit against Trump in New York, now has his eyes set on a new target:
Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Following slanderous, tabloid-level personal attacks by the New Yorker and others, the PAC's Democratic lawyers are besieging the campaign in New York State court.
Kennedy's humble state-by-state attempt at ballot access has been met with constant lawsuits, lawyers, and drama. But this week's lawsuit in New York hits deeper: attempting to invalidate his residence in New York (thus eliminating him from ballots nationwide).
To the Democrats, it doesn't matter that New York is where he pays taxes, owns a car, has a driver's license, and has spent the majority of his life. They are hoping to win on technicalities; that his neighbors don't see him often, and that him and his wife spend most of their time in California.
These aren't new tactics.
We saw Democrats shut-up Bernie Sanders almost overnight.
We saw Trump mercilessly attacked for years by the very same DNC machine, only to lose and become a 34-time felon.
Threats, manipulation, and warfare at the lower state and local levels are also commonplace. Third-party candidates could tell horror stories for hours, if only they weren't afraid of the lawyers.
It's time to ask ourselves: who is the "real threat to democracy"?
The DNC seems to thrive only when democracy is stifled and suffocated.
It's time to walk away.
