I finished Onimusha Way of the Sword after 31 hours. Here is my review:
🥇The combat in Onimusha is simply incredible. Capcom wasn't kidding when they said they had put 300+ animations to make the combat feel better. From the get-go, I was blown away by the swordplay. Whether it was parrying, deflecting, sword clashes, or Issen; everything in Onimusha is of the highest quality. I 100% believe that it has the best combat since Sekiro.
🥇Given how much effort has been put into the combat, I was expecting the story to be lacking. However, Capcom delivered a riveting story that genuinely made me feel all kinds of emotions. Musashi's growth being a key part of why I loved the story so much.
🥇When it comes to protagonists, I think Miyamoto Musashi is frankly one of the best I have seen in years. Despite being so strong, he's not serious all the time. He's the perfect blend of goofy and strong, a rare but excellent combination. I genuinely believe that he should be mentioned in the same breath as other Capcom greats.
🥇The side characters and the villains are top-notch. I have spoken about the villains in great detail previously. The likes of Sasaki, Dokyo, and Yoshitsune are just amazing. They elevate the story's quality so much. But Okuni, Takamura, and Shizuka shouldn't be overlooked either. They not only kept Musashi from losing his mind, but their own development was nothing short of amazing.
🥇The visuals and music in Onimusha Way of the Sword are outstanding. I'm so happy that Onimusha included the Photo Mode from Day 1. So, I could go ham with the pictures.
🥇Now let's talk about the bosses and my god are they amazing. From Ifuu and Burai to Yoshitsune himself, every fight brings a new challenge. You can't just mash the buttons and expect to win. It's necessary to learn the patterns and plan accordingly.
🥈Frankly, the only downside of the game is finishing the side quests. They're not bad initially, but after a while they get tedious.
🏆 Overall Rating: 10/10
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a genuine masterpiece, and as it stands, it is my Game of the Year. It excels in nearly every department, and I never felt bored. Not even for a second.
If you're unsure about the game, play the extended demo. If you don't like playing the demo, just buy the game. It will blow your socks off.

Going back to Yakuza 0 in 2026 reveals that the game's mix of 1980s Japanese decadence, nightlife, and crime-fueled violence still makes the game an all-time great. https://t.co/xHH2qYsfYW
