@ChrisCillizza @soccerreform It would help if every kid in the US played soccer only.. never gonna happen. We have kids playing soccer (probably some of our future best ‘athletes’), we don’t have the grassroots culture to identify every future ‘athlete’ that also has the cerebral side of the game.

@Jwiesel13 @Ajprellerbrnr The only path is USSF gets better at IDing the kids that already play… Pro/Rel, is sadly a pipe dream in US system. Ppl that love the game can volunteer. There are kids whose coaches have never watched a pro soccer game. A volunteer that loves the game can help them.

@Jwiesel13 @Ajprellerbrnr In a country of 330m people, there are freak athletes that play soccer AND have the intangibles (vision, decision-making, sense for game)… can USSF identify all of them? Maybe some, but kids will inevitably slip through the cracks (and play other sports where they get noticed)

@stoolpresidente I don’t think anyone that has followed this team for more than a month is saying they should be proud. The expanded format raised our floor (i.e. we should win the new R32 game) and got people excited for tonight, but the ceiling hasn’t moved in 20+ years

@NealGardner_ This game was the border b/w success and failure imo. First real test (ignoring the Turkey dead rubber) and we crumble. Expanded format got fans (myself incl.) excited/thinking we were better than reality. Hindsight feels like any other WC. Advance and get bounced in R16.
