पिछले दो दिन से मैं देख रहा हूँ कि मेरे बयान को घुमा-फिराकर लोगों के सामने पेश किया जा रहा है। और मेरे बयान में एक ऐसा भी अंग्रेजी का शब्द डाला जा रहा है, जो मैंने बोला ही नहीं, न ही मेरा दूर-दूर तक ऐसा कोई मतलब था।

मेरी कोई भी मंशा किसी हमारे भाई को ठेस पहुँचाने की नहीं थी। सिख समाज के हमारे भाईयों को तो ठेस पहुँचाने की मैं सोच भी न���ीं सकता। ना मेरी कभी कोई भावना ऐसी थी।

लेकिन फिर भी सिख समाज हमारा अपना परिवार है। अगर किसी भाई की भावनाओं को ठेस लगी है तो मैं आपका भाई हूँ, मैं खेद प्रकट करता हूँ। मेरी मंशा, मेरा मकसद किसी का दिल दुखी करना नहीं था।

सिख समाज हमारे देश का गौरवशाली समाज है और मुझे गर्व है ऐसे समाज पर, जिन्होंने हम सबके लिए जो कुर्बानियां दीं, उसको हम कभी भूल नहीं सकते। आज ��ी देश की सीमाओं की रक्षा हो, चाहे देश की आजादी की लड़ाई हो, सिख कौम ने देश के लिए जो कुर्बानियां दी हैं, उस पर हमें गौरव है और हमारा सिख समाज के साथ एक परिवार जैसा रिश्ता है। कभी भी ज़रूरत हुई तो छोटे-बड़े भाईयों की तरह आपस में हम हमेशा साथ खड़े रहे, ऐसा हमारा रिश्ता है।

जब 1908 में पंजाब में 'पगड़ी संभाल जट्टा' आंदोलन था, तो शहीद-ए-आज़म भगत सिंह जी के चाचा सरदार अजीत सिंह जी के साथ मेरे खुद के परदादा चौ���री मातूराम जी को काले पानी की सजा हुई थी और तब से लेकर जब किसान आंदोलन हुआ, जब पंजाब से हमारे किसान भाई आए, तो सबसे पहले उनके साथ मैं स्वयं पहुँचा। हमेशा हर संघर्ष में हम साथ रहे हैं।

और 84 में जो हुआ, सिख समाज के न्याय की उस लड़ाई में भी हम उनके साथ हैं। उनको न्याय मिलना चाहिए, कोई दोषी नहीं बचना चाहिए।
