Plausible reasons of why ITLF, Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum, burned a couple of tyres at the foot of the ‘Anglo-Kuki’ Centenary gate? Killing 2 birds with one stone?

👉 ITLF, who not only engineered but also the strategic brain of the current Manipur conflict, are based in Churachandpur and dominated by the Chin-Zomi-Mizo communities.

👉 Chin-Zomi-Mizo dominated the Churachandpur district while Kukis dominated in the hills of the North & East of the valley.

👉 After Naga-Kuki conflict of the 1990s, 1000s of Kukis, reportedly close to 1,00,000 of them were resettled in Churachandpur.

👉 This influx of Kukis led to the Kuki-Paite (Chin-Zomi-Mizo) conflict, over land, of 1997-1998 where a total of 352 people, mainly Paites were brutally killed, including 4 Paites burned alive in a church! This conflict gave birth to ZRA/ZRO militant group to defend the Chin/Zomi/Mizo communities.

👉 After this conflict Kukis were able to impose their forceful presence in Churachandpur.

👉 Emboldened with their presence in vast numbers to the North, East, South of the Imphal valley, Kukis started flexing their muscles in the middle of 2010s by erecting monoliths to remember the Anglo-Kuki rebellion of 1917-1919 as a war against the British, whereas in the name of a rebellion against the British they mercilessly murdered a vast number of Nagas including women and children and their heads were collected! These monoliths were to show their area domination.

👉 Likewise they erected the rebellion’s Centenary Gate in 2019 on the highway entry to the Churachandpur district! Just imagine how the already hurt & humiliated Paites (Chin/Zomi/Mizo) would feel about the sign of dominance in their own courtyard by the Kukis?

👉 ITLF (Paites) knew Kukis’ fighting prowess and also knew that they had to use the Kukis to take on the mighty Meiteis! So they needed to hatch a strategy to arouse, provoke the Kukis to attack the Meiteis and their properties if they had to wipe out Meiteis from their dominated areas!

What strategy will be better for ITLF to hurt the pride of the Kukis while also using it to arouse the Kukis and using them as pawns to attack the Meiteis, that’s probably exactly what they had done by burning the tyres at the base of the gate to cover the gate they hated in black soot from the burning tyres then provoking the Kukis by saying that Meiteis tried to destroy it by burning the it down! The outcome certainly had shown that ITLF was able to convince the Kukis that Meiteis tried to destroy the gate made of concrete and metal by burning 2 tyres and provoke the Kukis to arson attack Meitei houses! This shows that either the ITLF is very witty in their arguments or the Kukis are just buffoons!!

👉 In the current conflict today, it is reported from the ground that it is the Kukis who are in the frontline and doing most of the fightings while the ITLF are doing the grand designs, as they been doing from the beginning.

👉 In the People’s consultation on 27th Jan called by ITLF, among the outcomes, one was to accept ITLF’s strategies and another was to take Mizoram’s help! Have the Kukis ever enjoyed any support from Mizoram, how many assembly seats they enjoy there? Are the Kukis’ fighting somebody else’s war?? Will the Kukis ever enjoy the freedom and independence they enjoyed from the Meiteis with any other communities?

Why Chin-Kukis chose Manipur as their destination?

Migrations in larger batches as well as drip drops have been going on particularly post 1951 until today. Possible valid reasons of why the Kukis would prefer Manipur:

❗️Kukis are able to exploit the vast ‘unadministered’ hill areas of Manipur with their ‘tradition’ of expansionism from one village to another which is not possible in either Nagaland or Mizoram, keeping aside their lack of kinship with people in these two states.

❗️The Kuki population already inhabiting in Manipur have been able to silently absorb and rehabilitate smaller Burmese migrations and settle them down among themselves before creating new villages.

❗️These illegal migrants, with help from their ‘experienced’ former migrants, manage themselves permanent domicile documents fraudulently and start enjoying all kinds of state benefits including 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐘𝐌𝐀𝐃𝐄 𝐒𝐓 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐒. It can be remembered here that the competition for govt jobs, etc through ST status is much less in Manipur as the majority population is not in ST whereas Mizoram and Nagaland are almost 100% ST states.

❗️With their kindred in the administrative services, through ST benefits, the new migrants’ rehabilitations and subsequent ‘promotion’ to ST Status become ever smoother!

Way Back in 1987, The Thadou National Council Manipur (Thadous are Kukis inhabiting in Manipur for a long time) who could see what was going on within the Kuki society, perhaps the ‘swarm of illegal immigrants’ that the Meiteis couldn’t see, opposed recognition of certain tribes including Kuki or 'Any Kuki tribe' and even warned of imminent conflict among tribes to the extent of bloodshed if the said groups are granted recognition. The Council even submitted a memorandum to the then Union minister of state for welfare Rajendra Kumari Vajpai on November 17, 1987.

Today Manipur is reeling because of not heeding to that warning!!
