Having known @MichaelLee4NC and Heidi since I worked on his first Senate campaign when we were both younger men, I echo @WoodyWhite5’s comments. Some great leaders ready to pick up where Senator Berger left off, but I would personally love to see Michael Lee at the helm.

In the last 34 years, the NC Senate has had two leaders: Marc Basnight and Phil Berger.

Different men, from different parties, with vastly different world views about how best to govern the great State of North Carolina.

But that era is coming to an end this election cycle and the NC Senate will choose a new leader when it is over.

Every person on the list Dunn shares below are incredibly talented people. They each one love NC, dearly. All of them are true conservatives and would be good leaders to take over from Phil.

But I hope the caucus chooses @MichaelLee4NC to take the reins.

Why?

Well, first of all, I am biased in my opinion, because of our friendship. Michael and I have known each other since we were in our 20’s, before either of us had children. We’d run around SE NC putting up yard signs for local R’s, help with every GOTV program imaginable, man phone banks, stuff envelopes around my dining room table, and talk for hours about the future and what we wanted to see our State accomplish.

Our kids grew up together. In fact, truth be told, Michael and I grew up together, too, helping each other with our growing law practices, one advising the other in our political campaigns then reversing roles the next go-around, and being there for each other during difficult personal times. So, yes, I am biased.

But with the future leadership of the NC Senate at stake, the question is not only one of the fundraising prowess Dunn exhibits below - although without a doubt, raising copious amounts of money is a critical variable in the political equation.

But being an effective leader is also about having the exact right mixture - call it chemistry, if you want - of experience, vision, interpersonal skills, and bonafide ability to unite people around a central purpose, bring them together, and govern a state of nearly 12 million people.

All of the people on this list are capable of doing this, there is no doubt.

But @MichaelLee4NC is best suited for the job and I hope you will take the time to get to know Michael in the coming months, watch how he campaigns and what he says he wants to do, and then help him along the way if you have a couple of extra dollars.

According to @NHL and @visitRaleigh , The Stanley Cup Finals delivered over $13.4M in economic impact to Wake County.

Over 112,000 people attended. $255K in tax revenue was generated. 6,700 hotel room nights were purchased. Fans from all 50 states visited our city.

...and it was just 3 home games and 3 watch parties. (This is not including the over 200k people who showed up to the parade this past weekend.)

Professional sports are bigger than many realize. They have a unique ability to bring people together, to change the perception of a city/state, to generate excitement, and attract people who would not otherwise come to your city.

The one problem is that it's hard to acquire a professional franchise. You have to have the perfect combination of factors at the perfect time. This is how we even got the Hurricanes.

Our government had the foresight to build the arena, to recruit a professional hockey team. If that move isn't made, we don't have the @Canes. We don't have this run. We don't have this defining moment for our city/state.

With NFL, NHL, MLS, and NBA already spoken for in NC, MLB is the only one remaining.

And fate seems to be stepping in again...

And it just so happens that 8 years of community support, is merging with serious government interest and an investor with the money who just gave MLB the greatest proof of concept they could ever receive (a Stanley Cup in the exact market).

The time is now. The stars have aligned. This is the moment.

It's time to bring #MLB2NC and put #RaleighOnDeck.

You're actively conflating net worth (Dundon’s accumulated business equity) with annual taxable income (what NC actually taxes at a flat 3.99% in 2026).

Even at an extreme $100 million in taxable income, that person pays $3.99 million to NC — over 1,350 times what a median ~$74k household pays after the standard deduction. A $1M earner pays ~$39,900. Higher earners already shoulder vastly more in absolute dollars.

Who exactly says it’s “wise” to tax higher rates on higher incomes, and why? The flat rate treats everyone the same under the law while ensuring proportional (and larger) contributions from success.

Abandoning it for punitive brackets doesn’t grow revenue long-term or expand opportunity. It discourages the investment and job creation that built Dundon’s teams and NC’s economy.

Flat + low keeps the pie growing for all.
