@martyneoliver, @ofstednews@Rory_Gribbell IF current phonics training is right, as HMCI says, why do we still have so many reading problems. I say it is a half truth, based on extrapolation from the initial stagess. FCCT. https://t.co/T57UgDfLrY
Every time I hear it I shudder. Change is scary to most people, but scarier still is staying exactly as we are. Comfort is the enemy of progress and all that...
Sad to say the new Ofsted framework is a backward step & is causing more distress to heads & schools. It’s not enough for inspectors to ask “how are you feeling? Are you Ok?” when using a framework that is completely inflexible & punishes real inclusive schools. @Headrest_UK
I’m not sure how the new Ofsted framework is raising standards.
It’s seems to be regurgitating the same systemic issues - the more disadvantaged the school, the more likely Ofsted will highlight this, and exacerbate the problem. https://t.co/ryeN2UMGbo
I analysed almost 500 inspections to see if schools with disadvantaged intakes are performing worse on pupil outcomes.
The findings show that it's disproportionate. Heads say it's demoralising as they urge Ofsted not to confuse achievement & attainment.

Schools with the most disadvantaged pupils are almost 3x more likely to be marked down by Ofsted on achievement. The new report cards were supposed to be the fresh start. 500 inspections in and the same pattern is repeating itself. Full story from TES - https://t.co/qAlHU2xM5h

New Ofsted report cards will create more anxiety on leaders with already 'concerningly high' stress levels, a wellbeing impact report commissioned by the watchdog has warned

Bridget Phillipson, the image may look playful, but the message is serious.
You’re being ill-advised on early learning.
Play isn’t soft. It is learning. Children show writing, maths & thinking skills through play.
So don’t take play away. Come & observe it.

Breaking: Leaders’ unions will consider the 'unprecedented step' of asking their members to quit as Ofsted inspectors unless the watchdog delays roll-out of new inspections and ditch plans for five grades

Teaching unions have called on Bridget Phillipson to delay the roll-out of Ofsted's new-style 'report card' school inspections until September 2026 at the earliest https://t.co/LGQZqXsIcH
Look after your headteacher!!!
We are still hearing too many stories of Headteachers at the end of their tether!
Heads do such a demanding job.
We really need to look after them!
Raising the threshold at which pupils get an education, health and care plan would not solve the problems within the SEND system, experts have warned

An Ofsted report just needs to give an informative narrative of a school's relative strengths and areas for improvement.
There is absolutely no need for any judgements.
