The WNBA admits it got it wrong.

After security forced a mother and her 17-year-old daughter to cover their XX-XY Athletics shirts during the Fever-Dream game in Atlanta, the WNBA has put out a statement saying that was the wrong move.

“This should not have happened.”

The pair, who were seated courtside, wore the shirts for 4 quarters without issue before security confronted them in overtime. They said they were told the shirts — worn in support of Sophie Cunningham’s stance on keeping biological males out of women’s sports — were “offensive.”

Their choice: cover them up with Atlanta Dream shirts or be thrown out.

The WNBA admitted security crossed the line by offering the ultimatum.
