When someone talks about taxing the rich, they are starting from a wrong assumption. They think states and governments are better capital allocators than private citizens. History has repeatedly proven the opposite.
I don’t know about the rest of Europe, but Italian companies are pretty fucked right now. You have no idea how many businesses are surviving solely on government support, like Cassa Integrazione, or European Union funds like the PNRR and Industry 5.0.
Outside our bubble, people genuinely believe that unlimited budgets solve structural problems. A colleague argued that schools should have infinite funding because education is vital. They don't realize that removing financial constraints just removes the incentive to be efficient. It extends bureaucracy, not quality.
