Just so we are clear: Israel causing thousands of pagers to explode across Lebanon — with zero means of even *pretending* to know who was holding the device at that specific moment, or where they were, or possible collateral damage — is, as you’d expect, a serious war crime.
New, from @HRW: The Israeli military’s use of surveillance technologies, AI and other digital tools in Gaza could be increasing the risk of civilian harm. These tools raise grave ethical, legal and humanitarian concerns.
Orange trees are suffering from summer heat stress, causing plant diseases and lower crop yields. This isn't a future problem. Combatting global warming right now is how we protect the agricultural systems that underlie our global civilization. https://t.co/iyBgdx0E2j
Climate damages are "6X LARGER than previously thought", says new NBER working paper
– every 1C wipes out 12% of global GDP
– every tonne of CO2 causes >$1,000 of damages
@GernotWagner tells me: "Assuming nobody finds a flaw in this paper, it is going to truly change things"

The Israeli military has killed more than 7,870 Palestinian children in Gaza—each one with a face, name, and story—in just over 2 months.
Thousands lay trapped under the rubble, feared dead after Israel’s indiscriminate bombs continued to fall on them. #CeasefireNow@theIMEU
I'm saddened to hear that @Columbia has suspended the official student group Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP). I remember previous years' peaceful protests by these groups, and am unsettled by Columbia's choice to silence them.
@LauraKahn1 My mind is always on water utilities. Every time Israel has offered a two-state solution, the borders have been drawn to limit the Palestinian state's access to water by giving them only the most arid regions.
@LauraKahn1 I think it's also important to recognize that the Gaza strip has been effectively under siege for 16 years. Israel cannot treat the Palestinians as a hostile foreign nation and also control their utility infrastructure and borders.
