I wonder what JD Vance would do if someone told him they didn’t care about Usha’s actual status they were still going to call her an illegal alien because reasons.
Probably nothing because he’s chickenshit pretend tough guy but it would be an interesting social experiment.
For those keeping track, Trumpers have now picked fights with:
-the US Army
-Bud Light
-the NFL
-Taylor Swift
Expecting the next battle to be against apple pies
The *substance* of the decision is breathtaking enough. But it is the *context* that makes it genuinely appalling.
The justices weren't dealing with a disembodied abstraction of presidential conduct: As they conferred vast new powers, they were looking directly at Donald F***ing Trump.

Spicy summary[UPDATED]: 1. A comotose Biden would be FAR better than the dangerous, vengeful Trump with criminal immunity; 2. the election is not about Biden v Trump, but democracy v. tryanny of MAGA and its court jesters 3. If Biden cannot muster the wherewithal to turn the election in that direction it will be disastrous. 4. His failure to get out there to do multiple interviews, town halls suggests he CANNOT do it or his family is so afraid he cannot that they are insulating him. 5. This is NOT a staff problem. These are not dumb people. They know exactly what needs to be done. 6. The good news is that support for @VP if Biden steps away is solidifying 7. It's now or never for Biden to show he can do it. One Friday of events is not enough. 8. The press feeding frenzy made it MUCH harder for Biden to step away. Telling Biden what to do in the most insulting terms possible - even before polling and before allowing him the chance to prove his ability might have made it impossible for him to bow out. 9. Unsourced frantic "reporting" with no equivalent inquiry of Trump was a shocking dereliction of duty. The "helpful" pundits feeding their own anxiety and arrogantly telling the party to override voters were disastrous
When I found out how many shots our daughter was going to receive in the months after she was born, I thought to myself, “Wow, that’s a lot of diseases we won’t worry about” and then we got the vaccines
From David Sedaris on Trump vs Biden:
"I think of being on an airplane. The flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. “Can I interest you in the chicken?” she asks. “Or would you prefer the platter of shit with bits of broken glass in it?"
To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked.”
All Never Trumpers (count me as one) have to stop saying he was “indicted on 91 counts.” We should always say “charged with 91 crimes.” He is charged with being a criminal, not a counter.
Quick story in which my mom teaches me about loving people.
When my big sister got married, they pulled away from the family a lot. In hindsight, she was the oldest daughter who did too much for all of us, and her husband helped her put down boundaries with us, and it was new and painful.
The first few years of their marriage they didn’t come to a lot of family functions. But they were sometimes there and my BIL was super polite, but also a big introvert. About 4 years into it, on Christmas Eve, when all of us were just grazing food in my mom’s kitchen, and talking about life as we often did on holidays, I looked over and saw BIL was sitting in a recliner in the other room, reading a book.
Annoyed, I went over to my mom, to tattle. (I was also a married adult at this time.) “Mom, do you see he’s just in the other room, reading? It’s Christmas Eve for goodness sake.”
My mom gasped and quietly peeked into the other room. “It worked!” She said.
“What worked?” I asked.
“He’s just so shy around us, and I’ve been brainstorming ways to help him relax when he’s at our house. So I found out who his favorite author was, and bought the newest book just published. I set it right by the recliner, hoping he’d feel comfortable enough to just pick it up and read it. I got him to relax over here! It worked!”
I was humbled. Astounded. Her goal wasn’t to get him to get with the program. Her goal wasn’t to assimilate him to what the rest of our family was doing. Her goal was to help him feel loved when he was with us.
I will never ever forget this lesson she taught me.
American Presidents usually understand that being criticized and ridiculed is part of our process. In 1968, LBJ wrote the anti-Vietnam War Smothers Brothers, “It is part of the price of leadership of this great and free nation to be the target of clever satirists.”
Sen. Rafael Edward Cruz, who uses the preferred name Ted, has introduced a bill to limit the use of preferred names and pronouns. https://t.co/IAcx2YldHr
