Responses are still coming in to yesterday's Substack, and people seem stunned that this is really happening
Yes, it's happening. And to make it clear exactly what's happening, I'm coining a new term: "no-vote unions"
It's an easier way to understand the concept of "sectoral bargaining," which is government giving unions a way to represent all workers in an industry without most of the workers ever voting to join
As this New Jersey bill would do

Republican lawmakers cannot allow themselves to be fooled by “private-sector” unions. Organized labor leadership represents leftism at its core. By empowering one union boss, Republicans are empowering them all.

A staffer for @GovSherrillNJ just told me they're getting hundreds of calls about the independent-contractor rule today
Didn't ask my name
I asked what good it's doing me to call if she's not even going to take my name
She hung up on me
"Consider a national touring act booked to perform for one night at a New Jersey performing arts center. The artists arrive with their own program, work at venues throughout the country, and have no continuing relationship with the presenter.
"But the performing arts center is in the business of presenting performances, and the engagement takes place on its stage.
"Should the center be required to treat those touring artists as its employees for that one performance?"

🚨Genesee County uses Flock cameras to capture and search vehicle data. But when Kettering University student Josh Tewolde requested records showing where the cameras are, who accessed the data and whether his vehicle was scanned, the county withheld key information.
Its excuse? The records belong to Flock, a private contractor. But the county’s own contract says it owns the data.
Josh is suing because government should not be able to hide public surveillance records behind a private company. If the government uses the cameras, the public deserves transparency.
So freaking weird that people in media & journalism think it's their job to defend & even champion Flock Safety.
It's a product! A company! Let it promote itself!
Do you spend hours & hours & pages & pages defending Firestone tires? Tylenol?
How utterly transparent.
In 2024, a clear majority of union members favored President Trump’s endorsement, yet the Teamsters gave to the Harris campaign. It’s time for Republicans to wake up to the truth about union leadership.

For the last 36 years, there is not a single election cycle in which the Teamsters gave more than 16% of their federal contributions to Republicans. Policymakers should quit falling for the lie that union leaders care about conservative values.
