We find the regulation reduced Telcel’s share in prepaid lines, suggesting improved market competition. But interestingly, Telcel gained share in the postpaid segment, likely due to customer service improvements driven by the regulation's obligations.

My new article with Victoria Perez, Finding fraud: enforcement  detection, and recoveries after the ACA; analyzes fraud enforcement efforts by the Medicaid Fraud Control Units following the large Medicaid enrollment after the affordable Care Act.

We find evidence that increases in program scale, in terms of enrollment and utilization, reverted to the mean, facilitating the identification of outlier provider behavior, leading to an increase in fraud investigations and civil recoveries.

My journal article, “The Spanish Mission Legacy on Native American Reservations” jointly with Lee Alston and @DugganMarieC examines the long-run impact of Spanish missions on the Native Americans residing on reservations in California, Arizona, and New Mexico.

We found that among all US reservations in the American Southwest in the early 20th century, those that had extensive contact with missions had a higher percentage of Catholics, lower crime rates, higher yields in agriculture, and earned income at a higher rate.
