We were honoured to visit Tokyo Metro for the unveiling of a TfL-inspired roundel at Ueno Station. 🇯🇵🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Our Commissioner, Andy Lord, and the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, joined Akihiro Kosaka, President of Tokyo Metro, to unveil the roundel.

The moment celebrated a long connection between TfL and Tokyo Metro, which dates back to Noritsugu Hayakawa's visit to London more than a century ago. His experience of London’s transport network helped inspire the development of Tokyo's metro system.

Andy Lord said: "Our iconic roundel is recognised around the world and is a symbol of safety and service that all Londoners trust. We look forward to visitors to Ueno subway station being able to see it permanently from next year as both metros continue to serve the millions of people who rely on them each day."

We're proud that the London Underground is considered the origin of the Japanese subway and look forward to celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2027.
