Stepping on the field like a track dropped at midnight, Justin Herman’s got that rhythm and grit that can flip a game in a heartbeat. At 5’8” / 170, he runs his routes like verses — sharp, fast, and always landing with impact. A dawg in every sense.

At Montgomery High, Herman stacked numbers like plaques on a wall — 166 catches, 1,941 yards, and 21 touchdowns in his career. Senior year? 950 yards and 14 TDs on 68 grabs, locking down First Team All-District and back-to-back Offensive MVPs under Coach Grant Cooper. The Bears have always been about lighting up scoreboards, and Herman carried that legacy as team captain.

The story runs through family. Son of Meggan and Scott — with Scott’s own football roots at Mount Saint Joseph — Justin’s carrying the torch. With three sisters (Hailey, Ashlyn, and Jordan) backing him, it’s a family-first, football-always grind.

Montgomery, TX is more than a dot on the map. It’s the “Birthplace of the Texas Flag,” a small town with big Friday night lights. And Montgomery High has kept talent flowing: Adrian Awasom went from Bears purple to the New York Giants and Vikings, while recent standouts like QB Jordan Hood (Texas State) and K Andrew Mikkelsen (Texas State) prove the pipeline is alive and well. Herman is the next chapter in that story — another Bear turning hometown grind into the next level.

Off the field, Herman shows the same fire — Lone Star Conference Honor Roll at UTPB, giving back at food banks and fundraisers, and even mentoring kids at schools. He’s studying kinesiology, gaming when he’s not grinding, and already stepping into a coach’s mindset.

Now the Valley gets his next chapter. Herman came to UTRGV to be part of something special, to help build the foundation of a program that’ll put the 956 on the map. That Montgomery fire just linked up with Valley grit — and that track is about to drop heavy.
